Era una tarde soleada del mes de abril, la familia Santamaría decidió dar un paseo por el parque cercano a su casa. La familia constaba de los padres Pablo y Ana, su hija Alicia y la mascota llamada Tico.
Mientras caminaban por los senderos del parque contemplando la naturaleza, disfrutando de la brisa cálida y de otros visitantes, se dieron cuenta de que Tico le ladraba a algo en la grama.
Pablo le indico a Alicia que tranquilizara a Tico y la niña corrió de inmediato donde su pequeña mascota. Al llegar al sitio, se dio cuenta de que Tico le ladraba a una vara con un dibujo muy particular.
La niña, de inmediato, se sintió cautivada por la vara y se quedó largo rato, contemplándola con Tico en sus brazos, quien no paraba de ladrar.
Pablo observó que su hija no se movía, que mantenía la mirada fija en la grama y eso le hizo levantar la voz para llamar a Alicia.
La niña ni se inmutó, siguió contemplando la vara. Entonces, la madre, Ana, fue en búsqueda de la niña.
Ana le preguntó a la niña que le atrapaba su atención con tanta importancia para no atender el llamado de su padre.
La niña respondió con una frase en la que expresaba que la rama parecía un lindo muñequito y preguntó que si podía llevarla a casa.
La madre levantó la rama y dijo que era una rama seca con un dibujo simpático, pero que no era un muñeco e hizo la intención de botarla al lago. En ese momento la niña horrorizada gritó con llanto que no le botara su muñeco, que le permitiera llevarlo a casa.
Ana le sorprendió la actitud de la niña y para calmarla, cedió a su petición. Ambas junto con Tico fueron a encontrarse con Pablo.
Al reunirse la familia tomaron la decisión de ir a casa para almorzar y en el camino vía a la salida del parque, una anciana tomo el brazo de Ana y le expresó que lo que llevaba la niña era un amuleto diabólico que acabaría con la paz de la familia.
Ana y Pablo quedaron sorprendidos, y sin decir una palabra vieron como la anciana huía del lugar a toda prisa.
Inmediatamente, Pablo dijo, para calmar a las chicas, que la anciana estaba loca y que lo que quería era perturbar a los caminantes del parque. Ana siguió el paso de su marido, pero muy pensativa por lo que había pasado y más atrás iban Alicia y Tico.
Esa noche, Ana comenzó a experimentar una serie de eventos extraños. Escuchaba ruidos inexplicables en su casa, su perro ladraba sin cesar y las luces parpadeaban constantemente como cuando se avecina una tormenta.
Pablo se dio cuenta de lo que acontecía con la electricidad y le dijo a Ana que no se preocupara, eso era más de lo mismo en Venezuela.
Ana salió de la cocina y se dirigió a la habitación de Alicia porque no escuchaba su voz, tampoco a Tico y cuando un niño está muy callado algo no está bien.
Al llegar a la habitación se encontró con una escena de terror, Tico estaba en el piso sobre un charco de sangre y Alicia estaba en un rincón con su rostro totalmente pálido y sin mover una pestaña.
Ana le gritó a Pablo para que fuese a la habitación. Cargó a su hija y la llevó a la habitación matrimonial.
Cuando Pablo llegó a la escena se impactó por lo dantesca. De inmediato fue con la mujer y la niña para consolarlas. Ana le dijo a Pablo que sacara a Tico y que limpiara la sangre.
Pablo buscó una bolsa negra, unos trapos y un balde con agua. Coloco el cadáver de Tico en la bolsa y la llevó al auto para después enterrar los restos en otro sitio. Volvió y comenzó a limpiar la habitación con la interrogante en su mente; ¿Qué había pasado?
Entre tanto, Ana revisaba a Alicia para determinar que la niña no estuviese herida. Le llamaba la atención que la niña no mostraba ninguna señal de alarma, no hablaba, no lloraba; parecía no estar presente.
Pablo terminó la limpieza y movió la cama de Alicia para la habitación matrimonial; no quería que la niña durmiera sola después de lo acontecido.
Ana desesperada, agitó a la niña para que reaccionara preguntándole que había sucedido. La niña rompió en llanto y dijo que Tico había mordido al muñeco nuevo y este con sus cuernos perforó el cuerpo de la mascota hasta que no se movió más.
Un frío recorrió el cuerpo de Ana al escuchar lo que narró la niña. Era imposible que una pequeña vara seca hiciera algo así. Ana aseguraba que la niña estaba tan impactada por la escena de sangre que decía cosas sin coherencia.
La medianoche se acercaba y Pablo sugirió irse a dormir, que al día siguiente, con la luz del sol, las respuestas aparecerían.
Salió de la habitación a buscar la rama para deshacerse de ella, pero no la encontró por ningún lado. Volvió a la habitación matrimonial, le dijo a Ana que iría a enterrar a Tico y que en un par de horas volvería para dormir.
Pero la noche se puso más intensa. El cadáver de Tico no estaba en el auto. Pablo juraba que lo había puesto en la maleta del vehículo. No podía desaparecer así como así, se dijo en su interior.
Busco por tos lados, extendió la mirada alrededor de todo el sector y no vio a nadie, tampoco vio la bolsa. Se devolvió a la casa rascándose la cabeza pensando que estaba loco. Llegó a la habitación y le contó a Ana lo que le había pasado. Esta sintió que se le había bajado la tensión.
¿Qué estaba sucediendo en casa?
No sabían qué hacer, si llamar a la policía o a un vecino, pero ¿qué les dirían?, no estaba el cadáver.
Pablo decidió que lo mejor era ir a la ducha y relajarse con agua caliente. Pasó por el closet en busqueda de ropa interior para dormir y al abrir una de las gavetas, allí estaba la vara. Sintió en la cabeza el sonido de una tuba; ver la vara allí le pareció extraño, le asustó.
La tomó y la lanzo fuera de la habitación pensando que después de la ducha la recogería para botarla. Volteo en dirección de Ana y Alicia y vio que se habían dormido en la cama de la niña; ingresó a la ducha.
Pasaron 15 minutos y Pablo terminó de ducharse, se vio al espejo del baño para cepillarse y también vio que en la cama matrimonial estaba la bolsa con el cadáver del perro.
El cepillo de dientes calló al suelo, Pablo volteo para ver la cama y se percató que allí no había nada, pero lo peor fue que las chicas tampoco estaban. Se colocó un short y con el cabello todavía mojado, salió a buscarlas gritando sus nombres; nadie respondía.
Al llegar a la cocina sintió que se había vuelto loco. Su esposa Ana yacía en el suelo sobre una gran cantidad de sangre. Su hija estaba en un rincón cerca de la nevera en estado catatónico.
Cargó a su niña, salió de la casa y gritó para que lo ayudaran. Los vecinos alarmados salieron en su ayuda y llamaron a la policía.
Pablo cayó en llanto incontrolable y Alicia, la niña, no hablaba, no hacia ningun gesto.
Los paramédicos inyectaron un calmante a Pablo y lo subieron a la ambulancia. La niña fue tomada en brazos para llevarla a otra ambulancia. Cuando el paramédico llevaba a la niña, esta levantó la cabeza y señaló con su dedito la grama de la vecina Antonieta.
El paramédico no se percató de ello e ingresó a la niña en la ambulancia. El forense colocó el cuerpo de Ana en una bolsa y la policía tomó la bolsa con el cadáver de Tico. Todos los de la emergencia partieron, quedando los vecinos conversando sobre lo sucedido.
Todo se calmó y los vecinos fueron a dormir.
En la mañana Julito, hijo de Antonieta, llamó a su mamá para enseñarle que se había encontrado una rama con carita y que la iba a recoger para jugar con ella.
Frente a la casa, estaba la anciana expresando:
-Se repite la historia una y otra vez; no hacen caso, es un amuleto diabólico.

It was a sunny afternoon in April and the Santamaría family decided to take a walk in the park near their home. The family consisted of parents Paul and Anne, their daughter Alice and their pet named Tico.
As they were walking along the paths of the park contemplating nature, enjoying the warm breeze and other visitors, they noticed Tico barking at something in the grass.
Paul told Alice to calm Tico down and the girl immediately ran to her little pet. When she got there, she noticed that Tico was barking at a stick with a very particular design.
The girl was immediately captivated by the rod and stayed for a long time, contemplating it with Tico in her arms, who kept barking.
Paul noticed that his daughter was not moving, that she was staring at the grass, and that made him raise his voice to call Alice.
The girl didn't even flinch, she continued to stare at the stick. Then the mother, Anne, went in search of the girl.
Anne asked the girl what was so important in capturing her attention that she did not heed her father's call.
The girl responded with a sentence saying that the branch looked like a cute little doll and asked if she could take it home.
The mother picked up the branch and said that it was a dry branch with a nice picture on it, but that it was not a doll and intended to throw it into the lake. At that moment the horrified girl cried out in tears that she should not throw her doll away, but let her take it home.
Anne was surprised by the girl's attitude and to calm her down, she gave in to her request. Both of them, together with Tico, went to meet Paul.
As the family gathered, they decided to go home for lunch, and on the way out of the park, an old woman grabbed Anne's arm and told her that what the girl was carrying was a diabolical amulet that would put an end to the family's peace.
Anne and Paul were shocked, and without saying a word they watched as the old woman fled the scene in a hurry.
Immediately, Paul said, to calm the girls, that the old woman was crazy and that what she wanted was to disturb the walkers in the park. Anne followed in her husband's footsteps but was very thoughtful about what had happened, and further behind were Alice and Tico.
That night, Anne began to experience a series of strange events. She heard unexplained noises in her house, her dog barked incessantly and the lights flickered constantly as if a storm was coming.
Paul realized what was happening with the electricity and told Anne not to worry, it was more of the same in Venezuela.
Anne left the kitchen and went to Alice's room because she couldn't hear her voice, nor could she hear Tico, and when a child is very quiet something isn't right.
Tico was on the floor in a pool of blood and Alice was in a corner with her face completely pale and not moving an eyelash.
Anne shouted for Paul to go to the bedroom. He carried his daughter and took her to the master bedroom.
When Paul arrived at the scene he was shocked by the gruesomeness. He immediately went to the woman and the girl to comfort them. Anne told Paul to get Tico out and clean up the blood.
Paul immediately grabbed a black bag, some rags, and a bucket of water. He placed Tico's body in the bag and carried it to the car. He returned and started cleaning the room with the question in his mind: what had happened?
In the meantime, Anne checked Alice to make sure she was not injured. She was struck by the fact that the girl showed no signs of alarm, she didn't speak, she didn't cry; she didn't seem to be present.
Paul finished the cleaning and moved Alice's bed to the double room; he didn't want the girl to sleep alone after what had happened.
Anne desperately shook the girl to get her to react by asking her what had happened. The girl burst into tears and said Tico had bitten the new doll. Then the stick went through the pet's body until it did not move anymore.
A cold chill ran through Anne's body as she listened to the girl's story. It was impossible for a small, dry stick to do such a thing. Anne claimed that the girl was so shocked by the scene of blood that she said things without coherence.
Midnight was approaching and Paul suggested going to sleep, that the next day, with the light of the sun, the answers would appear.
He left the room to look for the branch to get rid of it, but it was nowhere to be found.
He went back to the matrimonial room and told Anne that he was going to bury Tico and that in a couple of hours, he would be back to sleep.
But the night got more intense. Tico's body was not in the car. Paul swore he had put it in the suitcase of the car.
He couldn't just disappear, he said to himself. He looked around the whole area and saw no one, nor did he see the bag. He went back to the house scratching his head thinking he was crazy.
He came into the room and told Anne what had happened to him. Anne felt her blood pressure drop.
What was happening at home?
They didn't know what to do, whether to call the police or a neighbor, but what were they going to tell them, there was no body of the pet.
Paul decided it would be best to go into the shower and relax in the hot water. He rummaged in the wardrobe for some underwear to sleep in and when he opened one of the drawers, there was the dry rod.
He felt the sound of a tuba in his head; seeing the rod there seemed strange to him, and it frightened him.
He picked it up and threw it out of the room, thinking that after the shower he would pick it up and throw it away. He turned in the direction of Anne and Alice and saw that they had fallen asleep in the girl's bed; he went into the shower.
Fifteen minutes passed and Paul finished showering, he looked in the bathroom mirror to brush himself and through the same mirror, he also saw that the bag with the dog's body was on the double bed.
The toothbrush fell to the floor, Paul turned to look at the bed and realized that there was nothing there, but the worst thing was that the mother and the girl were not there either.
She put on shorts and with her hair still wet, she went out to look for them, shouting their names; no one responded.
When he reached the kitchen he felt as if he had gone mad. His wife Anne was lying on the floor in a pool of blood. His daughter was in a corner near the fridge in a catatonic state.
He carried his daughter, came out of the house, and shouted for help. Alarmed neighbors came to his aid and called the police.
Paul fell into uncontrollable tears and Alice, the girl, seemed to be absent.
The paramedics injected Paul with a painkiller and put him in the ambulance. The girl was carried to another ambulance. As the paramedic carried the girl, she raised her head and pointed her little finger at the grass of neighboring Antonieta.
The paramedic did not notice this and put the girl in the ambulance. The coroner placed Anne's body in a bag and the police took the bag with Tico's body. All the emergency workers left, leaving the neighbors to discuss what happened.
Everything calmed down and the neighbors went to sleep.
In the morning Julito, Antonieta's son, called his mother to show her that he had found a branch with a little face and that he was going to pick it up and play with it.
In front of the house, the old woman was saying:
-The story is repeated over and over again; they don't listen, it's a diabolical amulet.
