English version

The great test

In 2005, I was in my fifth year of high school. It was that time when we were all eager to finish the year to graduate and move on to college.

My friend Johan had been in the same class with me since sophomore year, so we had a great friendship and you could say we were inseparable.

Since it was the week of final exams in all subjects, all of us classmates took turns to support Johan by inviting him to lunch and to take a bath and change his uniform, since my friend lived in a remote town called La Ceiba, which borders the state of Apure.

That day, it was my turn to offer him my house. My mom prepared a nutritious lunch for us and my dad picked us up from physical education class in the morning. All the free time we spent practicing for the day's test, which was the dreaded English.

At first Johan seemed a little lost when I explained the irregular verbs, but then he understood everything perfectly. When my mom dropped us off at the school gate he discreetly approached me and told me he would sit behind me just in case. Before entering the classroom I made it very clear that I didn't want any trouble and that during the test I wouldn't pay any attention to her.

The test began and with it my ordeal. Johan whispered from his desk: -What is Date?- and I was very embarrassed, nervous that they would take the test away from me.
-What is Name?" the interrogation continued.

In desperation I decided to show him my test so that he would leave me alone and I could finish quickly.

The following week the corrected tests were delivered to us. I was called to the school address. When I went in they made me explain why there were 2 English tests with my name on them. I didn't know how to explain what was obvious, Johan copied my entire test, including my name.

I left the address and gave Johan a lepe, so that he would never forget that he is Name again.
