Taking stock of the good things on the farm that we went through in the year 2021, I want to start by commenting that there were many of them. Successes and successes that probably for some people do not have a great significance, but for me they are such enormous advances that seen from my humble point of view they reach the size of the Eiffel Tower, to give an example.
Haciendo un balance de las cosas buenas en la granja por las que pasamos en el año 2021, quiero comenzar comentando que estas fueron muchas. Éxitos y aciertos que probablemente para algunas personas no tienen una gran significancia, pero para mí son tan enormes avances que vistos desde mi humilde óptica alcanzan el tamaño de la Torre Eiffel, por ponerles un ejemplo.
Not always when evaluating, we ponder correctly, perhaps because we are very subjective, so it is advisable to give us a reasonable time and then evaluate, I assure you that there is no better judge than time. Personally, this has happened to me, that is why I prefer nowadays to wait a little bit to make the evaluations, because with objectivity I can see where were the best successes and where they were not, in order to take the measures that allow us to advance and correct.
No siempre al evaluar, ponderamos de manera correcta, quizás porque somos muy subjetivos, por ello es recomendable darnos un tiempo prudencial y después valorar, les aseguro que no hay mejor juez que el tiempo. En lo personal me ha pasado, por ello prefiero hoy en día, esperar un poco para hacer las evaluaciones, pues con objetividad puedo ver donde estuvieron los mejores aciertos y donde no, para así tomar las medidas que permiten avanzar y corregir.
So I can tell you that among the good things that happened to us are the following:
- Have achieved seeds of aromatic and medicinal plants, for new crops.
- Develop plants that are currently in full growth and awaiting production.
- Harvested several items that I had never harvested before on the farm and were used in the kitchen on a permanent basis.
- Two new female sows were added as mothers and a male as a stallion.
- The hens produced chicks.
- Installation of the smoker for pork processing.
- And all year, we were consuming bananas and topochos, both plants of the Musa genus.
Así que puedo contar que entre las cosas buenas que nos sucedieron están:
- Haber logrado semillas de plantas aromáticas y medicinales, para nuevas cosechas.
- Desarrolle plantas que actualmente están en pleno crecimiento y a la espera de producción.
- Coseche varios rubros que nunca antes había cosechado en la granja y se utilizaron en la cocina de manera permanente.
- Se sumaron dos cerdas hembras nuevas como madres y un macho como padrote.
- Las gallinas lograron pollitos.
- Instalación del ahumador para el procesamiento de carne de cerdo.
- Y todo el año, estuvimos consumiendo bananas y topochos, ambas plantas del genero Musa.
I have to admit that among the situations that we had to deal with on the regular scale was the loss of two pregnant female pigs, presumably due to the abrupt changes in temperature, from heat between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius to cold due to the rain and blizzard that were present throughout the year. Also the death, due to his age, of a very dear pig named Fat, painful and sad loss at the time, leaving only the good memories of having shared with us.
Tengo que admitir que entre las situaciones que se nos presentaron en la escala de regular es la perdida de dos hembras cerdas preñadas, presumiendo que el motivo de la perdida fueron los cambios bruscos de temperatura, de calores entre 35 y 37 grados centígrados a fríos productos de la lluvia con ventisca que estuvieron presentes durante todo el año. También el deceso por la edad de un padrote muy querido que respondía al nombre de Gordo, pérdida dolorosa y triste en su momento, quedando tan solo los buenos recuerdos de haber compartido con nosotros.
We also made some improvements in the courtyard, which should be completed by 2022, but we also managed to start the systematization stage of all these experiences and made progress with food processing, for example, we started to produce York and Serrano ham, all kinds of jams with the fruits obtained from the trees, smoked meats, different types of breads, as well as pastries in general, using creativity and the desire to move forward.
También se hicieron algunas mejoras en el patio, que este 2022 deben ser concluidas, pero además logramos comenzar la etapa de sistematización de todas estas experiencias y se avanzó con el procesamiento de alimentos, como por ejemplo, comenzamos a elaborar jamón tipo York y Serrano, todo tipo de mermeladas con las frutas obtenidas de los árboles, carnes ahumadas, diferentes tipos de panes, así como repostería en general, usando la creatividad y las ganas de avanzar.
The way has had its difficulties, but we have plenty of willpower and I think that many people in my country are the same, doing things for the welfare of themselves and their families. We cannot sit and cry or wait for the situation to improve by itself, we have to put a lot of effort, even if it costs a world, but I am sure it is worth it.
El camino ha tenido sus dificultades, pero voluntad nos sobra y pienso que muchas personas en mi país están iguales, haciendo cosas por el bienestar propio y de su familia. No podemos sentarnos a llorar o esperar que la situación mejore por sí sola, hay que poner mucho empeño, aunque cueste un mundo, pero estoy segura que lo vale.
