Today, 14th February has been observed as Valentine Day all over the world. A day dedicated for the love and romance among the couples. Many couple ties knot on this day while many take vows to remain together forever. However there is a particular section in Indian society where they feel that Valentine is not meant for them.
As it happened today, I poked someone in my village about Valentine day, and ended up with a heated argument. Everyone calling me wrong as someone who is bringing western culture to the rural socity. As I am born and brought up in cities , Valentine day celebration is very common out there. But Rural people are rooted to the old custom and tradition and adapting to new culture seems to be difficult. I feel sorry for these people as they have taken me wrong with Valentine Day discussion.
It make me laugh when people criticize Valentine day. I belive we should not be so critical about every western things that are introduced in India. If Valentine day celebration is wrong thing to do,then we must stop using mobile phone, laptops and social media and many such things as all these are western country innovation and being given to our society. We have adapted to them so easily but we hesitant to observe a day for love and romance.
India is secular nation, it does not prioritize any one religion for the country and for its people. But certain activist group too are against observing Valentine day in city. They keep a strict vigil in public places and creates ruckus if somebody caught with red rose in hand. This group really get too aggressive and violent sometime. Today argument reminded me of these activist group. Even though these villagers are not ready accept the western culture. I somehow manage to argue out by giving many example like of birthday celebration. Hopefully, they able to give a good thought on my points and let people to enjoy their life as they wanted to be.
