On the occasion of the launch of the whaleshares platform and to give cover to my first publication on there, I made the logo using the quilling paper technique. The Whaleshares logo consists of two whales swimming in a circle in the manner of yin yang symbol with contrasting colors.

For the realization of this work I used 5mm strips made with construction paper, glue, scissors, a stick to execute the technique of quilling or rolling of the strips (there is a small slot in one of its ends to insert the strips of paper) and other attachments to add the glue to the forms such as a 7A spatula and a cotton clip. It should be noted that the last two are dental instruments, which is usual among us oral health professionals, using dentistry to solve it all XD.

The logo starts with a circle divided by a wavy line that forms two drops inside it. Notice the fold at the end of the strip to grab it inside the circle. I used the stick to bend and create the path of the following strips and finally cut some to make the fins of each whale. With this the main silhouette was finished.

For the placement of the strips that correspond to the pleats of the whales in their ventral part I used the cotton clip. Notice that I made two almost total cuts by the portions in which the fin is located. In this way, I could place the strip of paper and then remove the piece corresponding to the inside of the fin.

As I mentioned, I made a slot in the stick to introduce the end of the paper strip and thus be able to roll it up, this is the basic principle of the quilling technique. Then, according to the shape you want to give to the spiral circle, you stick the end to the body and you get a circular shape that you can then mold. With these steps I was filling the interior of each whale of the logo until completing the spaces.

I worked a particular background and contour for a more artistic touch. The outline I made it with free circular shapes and spirals, I wanted to resemble the sea in movement. For the background I used the remnant of paper that I made the strips with and placed them in gradual color order. I used a cardboard base for stability.

Once finished, I just had to photograph it with my phone's camera and edited using the Snapseed application. Then I assembled macro images in PowerPoint and got them in png format. Working on paper as the quilling technique I find it relaxing, it helps to not think much and focus on something simple while your creativity flows. I hope you like it and get encouraged to work with some artistic technique with paper.
