The Lansing Alano Club West on a rainy day...

New in recovery, nowhere to go...

If you are anything like me, being new in recovery is hard! I know that I can go "find something to do" but again, for someone like me, that often means finding trouble. So what should someone like me do with their time to get out of their own head? For me, the relief comes from hanging out at the Alano Club West in Lansing, Michigan. They offer a place to just hang out and be yourself. They have a coffee shop with snacks, and people are in and out all day long. There is always an ear to listen and a meeting just getting ready to start. Most important, there aren't people there drinking or using drugs.

A real "safe space..."

There are literally thousands of Alano clubs across the country, and the world. A simple Google search can find the one closest to you, and no matter where you are, if you walk in the door, you will be welcomed. You are pretty much guaranteed to find someone to talk to, even if it is just about something other than recovery. If you want to ask questions or get advice about how to stay sober, you are promised to find someone that will talk to you about that. What I am trying to say here is this, if you need a place to go to just get away from yourself and not be around drugs and alcohol, the Alano club is a great place to do so. Why not drop in a see what they are about?

Something to think about!
