This time I want to show you a tutorial on how to achieve in an easy and simple way a comic style character. (En esta ocasión les quiero mostrar un tutorial de como lograr de una forma fácil y sencilla un personaje al estilo comics.)

In this video you will find all the creation process that I usually do to make my comics, from drawing, inking, effects and background. (en este video encontrarán todo el proceso de creación que suelo hacer para hacer mis comics, desde el dibujo, el entintado, efectos y fondo.)

MATERIALS

For the drawing: common white, waterproof cardboard of approximately 8x10, mechanical pencil 0.7 and eraser.
(Para el dibujo: una cartulina blanca común, resistente al agua de aproximadamente 8x10, portaminas 0.7 y goma.)

for inking: pens and Sharpies of different sizes, thick for filling in large areas and thin for making lines, you can find them on amazon or in any drawing supplies store.
(Para el entintado: plumas y Sharpies de diferentes tamaños, gruesos para rellenar áreas grandes y finos para hacer líneas, pueden encontrarlos en amazon o en cualquier tienda de artículos de dibujo.)

For the effects: I will use white acrylic ink and brushes.
(Para los efectos: voy a usar tinta acrílica blanca y pinceles.)

TIPS

1 . When drawing a character in comic style, it is necessary to simplify the shapes and add a minimalist style to them.
• less rounded and more straight edges
• the line more emphasized, less stylized
(1. A la hora de dibujar un personaje al estilo comic, es necesario simplificar las formas y añadirles un estilo minimalista).
• bordes menos redondeados y más rectos
• la línea más valorizada, menos estilizada

2 . When inking, basically what we will do is to enhance the drawing, but instead of using lines as in traditional drawing, we will use stains to achieve the volumes.
Something that I do is that after having made a stain, I begin to make several lines in favor of the volume, to degrade the volume a little bit. in favor of the volume, to degrade the stain a little, we can also use the finger (in some cases).
(2. A la hora de entintar, básicamente lo que haremos es valorizar el dibujo, pero en vez de usar líneas como en el dibujo tradicional usaremos manchas para lograr los volúmenes.
Algo que yo hago es que luego de haber hecho una mancha, comienzo a hacer varias líneas a favor del volumen, para degradar un poco la mancha, también podemos usar el dedo(en algunos casos)

3 . Another thing I do is to enhance a little bit the shadows parts.
Using the white ink with a brush and my finger, I dirty some shadows, to achieve effects and volumes that look nice to the eye (without abusing) I also use a hard brush, to make stencils and splashes.
(3. Otra cosa que hago es valorizar un poco las partes de sombras.
Usando la tinta blanca con un pincel y el dedo, voy ensuciando algunas sombras, para lograr efectos y volúmenes que se ven agradables a la vista (sin abusar) también suelo usar un pincel duro, para hacer estarcidos, y salpicados.)

4 . For the backgrounds I usually use a spray of some used perfume, what I do is to reduce a little of pure black ink in one of these sprays but before, using a white sheet, I frame the main character, so that when making the stencil that area does not receive the impact of the ink achieving depth and contrast between figure and background.
(4.Para los fondos suelo usar un espray de algún perfume gastado, lo que hago es rebajar un poco de tinta negra pura en uno de estos sprays pero antes, usando una hoja blanca, enmarco el personaje principal, para que al hacer el estarcido esa área no reciba el impacto de la tinta logrando profundidad y contraste, entre figura y fondo.)

I also recommend that you study a little basic anatomy, so that you can stylize it and minimize it to a comic book style.
(Les recomiendo además estudiar un poco de anatomía básica, para luego poder estilizarla y minimalizarla hasta el estilo comic.)
