Well, there is some theories that Egypt was a tropical place, before becoming a desert, but that would be before the Egyptian civilisation we know. Egypt has barely a winter. They didn’t care about the sun as much as they did about the nile. And the days are always longer than in the northen areas.
I really think, the argument that Christmas trees come from egypt, because it was the end of winter… does not help any cause. (Like I told you, right where I live, in the Mediterranean, it’s warm in december many times. )
To be honest I wouldn’t quote H.G. Wells in this topics. Not only he was mainly a fiction writer, but he was a socialist and was all into darwinism, both in opposition to Christianity. So, it makes sense he would light the flame of the controversy, at the level that society at the time could handle. - This is a big point. There are many, many books who say stuff like this. The majority. Like most history channels shows, on the topic. Google gives 20 pages , adding flames to the controversy, before I can find one, that tries to get the sources. All the big you tubers who “tell you the trutth” speak about the pagan thing…
The order to kill the babies, could had been a few months after to a year and a half… I could not find anything that’s not speculation on that one. But if it was months he could had order to kill, one year and younger.
The start alignment does not mean, a start became visible in the sky. I think it would had been a miracle type of event. But haven’t looked much into the star thing. If you know something, let me know.
But everyone agrees Jesus was 33 when he died, I don’t see the relevance if we made a mistake of 4 years in the calendar…
The bible does confirm, Jesus was born on December 25th. Also archeology, of the early Christinas. I mentioned a source, that confirms the 25th celebration, very early. Also, we must understand, most of the “knowledge” back then was by oral tradition. A piece of paper was a luxury and you would get fed to the lions if you had the gospels. The tradition of early Christians who knew his Mother, celebrated on the 25th.
Yes, I mean Davinci code. Dan Brown, HG Wells and so on… all best sellers, all bombarded into the culture and to our shared awareness. The Davinci code, is 100% false, right?
Zeitguiest, is a documentary from a few years back, that really promoted the idea that Jesus is just a metaphor for the stars and is a copy from Horus and mitra and so on… It was super sucefful documentary and it added a lot of flame to the controversy, fire. But that one, a simple research can show you it’s all a lie. 100% false. as well.
I always seen Santa as a fat, white bearded man. Personally to say he looks like an Elf, is really reading into it and looking for a confirmation. I don’t know. But if it was from 1800’s then it really has nothing to do with the origins of Christmas, right?
Obviously english has been evolving, but I think it’s far to say it’s recent. It kinda only appeared once it had the French influence. Think that was pass, the 1000 years after Jesus. But I don’t know. It was just an observation, because many of this arguments rely in English. And since some people who liven English speaking countries have a bit of a anglo centric view of the world, they don’t eve notice this basic fallacies of those arguments. Sunday… was “changed” because it’s the sun day. Or easter and Isthar… quite a few examples. That only “work” in english.
I know a little bit about Catholicism. It’s not pagan at all. Yet many books, have been filled already with all possible theories including sunday the sun day… I personally believe, that’s the big domino that keeps all the other “Christian Pagan myth” going. The Catholic pagan and dark ages, is so ingrained in or subconscious that we tend to believe the “sun day” and the “we know the birthday isn’t on the 25th”
I’l just add that, if there is an anti Christian vibe in society now a days, it dwarfs when compared to anti Catholic.
Yes, some mythologies have similarities. They all came from the same place right? All humanity came from Noah. So, it’s normal that there is some similarities.
Talking about serious books, there is a great one. where he actually examines all the legit and ancient sources. And it talks about the decadence of the ancient world, how the worshiping got to those points and so. It’s called “ancient city” or something like that, not sure about the title in English. The writer is called Fustel de Coulanges. Now that’s the type of book that the History channel won’t mention for some reason, yet it studies the original sources.
Also, if they are records of the world before the flood, it’s also normal they have similarities. But having said that, they have less i common than what we are led to believe. It’s a bit the Zeitgeist effect. If you actually write down, the similarities and you trace them down to original sources and not Zeitguiest in fashion type of stuff. You’ll see, it’s not that many. ie: The Jesus is a metaphor for the sun, and all these myth had a similar character is 100% off. IN that example, not a single thing people quote is accurate.
But again, yes they do have similarities. ie: The flood is almost found in all.
Oh, I was waiting for it… the easter and Isthar. ;)
Christmas is not in the bible, so neither are Christmas trees.
Disney, guess that’s too much of a broad sentence. But, I don’t think they promote Christian values no.
I don’t think Santa looks like an Elf no. Never even crossed my mind.
As far as I know an Elf is a fictional character from the fantasy genre. But there might be something more.
Now a days, people think more about consumerism than about religion. Also, Santa is bombarded left and right by the same machine that wants to tell us, it’s all pagan. Also, most of western society is either atheist or new ager. And many who even think about it, listen from all sides that’s it’s a pagan/ false celebration … But many people, keep the Jesus birth in the front seat.
