Hive is an amazing community that has impacted the lives of many and plays a huge role in their lives, and this is probably why many still remain active on the platform despite experiencing growth in different aspects of their lives. It's also probably the reason why such people keep bringing in newbies to come join the community so they can experience and enjoy the same thing they've themselves been enjoying through the years. However, despite the fact that many newbies joined Hive, it's just surprising to still see many of them leave. The blockchain can't help but wonder why. Today I'll explore why such is happening, so without further ado, let's get to it.
To start with, it's worth knowing that there are lots of reasons a newbie could possibly leave the Hive community, so we can't just pinpoint one reason and try to generalise it for everyone else, and that's why I'll be touching as many as I can today. First on the list are probably the newbies; they aren't really a fan of writing or the majority of what Hive offers, such as gaming, blogging and the like, and they're probably just drawn to Hive due to what they see their friends earn here, but when they see what it takes to earn the same, they back out because they can't give what it takes.
Another reason why it's actually a popular opinion is because they probably don't get any support or a good one when they join and believe they've invested their time and should be getting something even if it isn't up to what their onboarder is getting; in the long run, they might get discouraged and leave. It also be due to other things that they're doing offline, such as their work, academics and the like, getting in the way of their commitment to Hive, and when they are unable to manage both together, they'll decide to opt out of Hive and focus more on those other things, since they usually consider them more important, since they're new to Hive and haven't really benefited much from it, to the point of seeing its full potential.
I've also come across people who joined Hive just because they see you're thriving in it and know it earns you money, and so they begin to encourage you to introduce them to what you're doing that's helping you financially, but once they join, they won't even do anything; some might join, publish a few posts and disappear, while some won't even do anything other than create an account. Additionally, some leaves hive due to a new opportunity they're open to. I know a few friends who left Hive because they got a new job, because they're relocating or because Hive value keeps declining and they feel it's unsafe to invest their time, money and effort into it, so they won't end up losing on all sides.
That's about it on my take on why some newbies leave Hive. Overall, that doesn't make Hive terrible; people have different views and opinions about things, and we can't expect everyone to act or react towards something the same way. That's why we're humans with free will, whose interests vary from one individual to another. I've been on Hive for the past 5 years; I didn't leave and have never left. In fact, I've been so consistent to the point where I'm among the top 5 most consistent post publishers in the entire Hive Blockchain, and it's because of my love for the Hive community at large and the benefits I get in return for my efforts.
On what the community can do to reduce the rate at which newbies leave the hive, well, I don't think there's much that should be done, and that's because we can't please everyone, but then it'll be nice for the hive community to support newbies more than we used to. It goes, they feel welcome in all aspects, and they'll be pleased to stay. Also, if the value of the hive can be improved or stabilised, it'll give newbies confidence to invest their time here more.
