Hello, friends of #HomeSolutions. Today I want to share a story with you about the importance of reading and following instructions. Yes, something so basic, but that many times we forget. This happened about 6 years ago, my husband and I had just moved in together and had started buying some things to better organize the house. The first thing we bought was one of those easy-to-assemble closets, which we installed together, and it looked really good, in fact, it's still installed in the house, in perfect condition even after we moved.

With that success as a precedent, we decided to buy a piece of furniture to organize our bathroom products. For this, we went to Home Depot, a chain of home improvement stores that has millions of options for remodeling and decorating your home. After hours of looking, we decided on a very simple bamboo one, but also very pretty, one of those that goes behind the toilet to take advantage of that space. Even though we got home a little late, we decided to assemble it when we got home because we thought it would be an easy task, but we were completely wrong.
We started separating the pieces, luckily the furniture came with its own assembly tools, so we quickly got to work. We started following the photo that was on the box of the furniture, because we couldn't find the instruction manual anywhere. Everything was going relatively well, until we realized that some pieces didn't fit well and that it was looking a little crooked, so we proceeded to analyze what we had done wrong, and we realized that each shelf had an order, so we disassembled everything and rearranged the shelves, only to realize that it was looking just as crooked.
By this point we had been at it for about an hour, we were getting angry, and we were almost giving up on the furniture, until we realized that there was a QR code on the box that when scanned opened a PDF with the instruction manual, it was almost like a miracle. It turns out that we were not only putting the shelves wrong, but also the sides, and we were missing a table at the bottom that served to level the whole piece of furniture. Fixing all this required us to disassemble the entire piece of furniture again, but the third time is the charm, and we finally managed to assemble it correctly.
Anyone would think that this is where the story ends, but sadly it is not. When we took it to the bathroom, we realized that we had to remove the bottom table to be able to place it in its place. We did it grudgingly, only to realize that we still couldn't put it back, because it was just at the height of the water hose from the toilet. By that time it was late, and we were tired, so the only thing we could think of was to go get the drill, make some more holes lower down and that was it, we installed it a few centimeters lower and finally our nightmare was over.
It took us two and a half hours to assemble a seemingly simple piece of furniture. Maybe if the manufacturers had included the instructions or if they had made the QR a little more visible we would have done it in less than half that time. After that nice experience, we haven't bought anymore self-assembly furniture at home and of the things we've bought since then, we make sure to read the manual very well before putting them into operation.
La Importancia de las Instrucciones
Hola, amigos de #HomeSolutions. El día de hoy quiero compartirles una anécdota sobre la importancia de leer y seguir instrucciones. Sí, algo tan básico, pero que a muchos a veces se nos olvida. Esto pasó hace unos 6 años aproximadamente, mi esposo y yo teníamos poco tiempo de habernos mudado juntos y habíamos comenzado a comprar algunas cositas para organizar mejor la casa. Lo primero que compramos fue uno de esos closets de fácil armado, el cual instalamos juntos y quedó realmente bien, de hecho, sigue instalado en la casa, en perfecto estado aun después de mudarnos.
Con ese caso de éxito como precedente, decidimos comprar un mueble para organizar nuestros productos de baño. Para ello fuimos a Home Depot una cadena de almacenes de cosas para el hogar que tiene millones de opciones para remodelar y decorar el hogar, después de horas buscando, nos decidimos por uno de bambú muy sencillo, pero también muy bonito, de esos que se colocan atrás del escusado para aprovechar ese espacio. A pesar de que llegamos a casa un poco tarde, decidimos armarlo al llegar porque pensábamos que sería una tarea sencilla, pero estábamos completamente equivocados.
Comenzamos separando las piezas, por suerte el mueble traía sus propias herramientas para ensamblado, así que rápidamente nos pusimos manos a la obra. Comenzamos a guiarnos por la foto que había en la caja del mueble, ya que no encontramos el manual de instrucciones por ningún lado. Todo iba relativamente bien, hasta que nos dimos cuenta de que unas piezas no encajaban bien y que estaba quedando un poco chueco, por lo que procedimos a analizar lo que habíamos hecho mal y nos dimos cuenta de que cada repisa llevaba un orden, así que desarmamos todo y reacomodamos las repisas, solo para darnos cuenta de que estaba quedándonos igual de chueco.
Para este punto ya teníamos como una hora en eso, ya nos estábamos poniendo de malas y casi desistíamos del mueble, hasta que nos dimos cuenta de que en la caja venía un código QR el cual al escanearlo nos abría un PDF con el manual de instrucciones, fue casi como un milagro. Resulta que no solamente estábamos poniendo mal las repisas, sino también los laterales y nos faltaba agregar una tabla en la parte inferior que servía para nivelar todo el mueble. Arreglar todo esto requirió volver a desarmar todo el mueble, pero la tercera es la vencida y finalmente logramos armarlo correctamente.
Cualquiera pensaría que hasta aquí llega la historia, pero tristemente no es así, cuando llevamos al baño nos dimos cuenta de que teníamos que quitar la tablita de la parte inferior para poderlo acomodar en su lugar. Lo hicimos a regañadientes, solamente para darnos cuenta de que igual no la podríamos colocar, ya que quedaba justamente a la altura de la manguera de agua del escusado. Para ese entonces ya era tarde y estábamos hartos, así que lo que se nos ocurrió fue simplemente ir por el taladro, hacerle unos agujeros más abajo y listo, la instalamos unos centímetros abajo y por fin nuestra pesadilla había terminado.
Dos horas y media nos llevó armar un mueble aparentemente sencillo. Quizás si los fabricantes hubieran incluido las instrucciones o si hubieran hecho el QR un poco más visible lo hubiéramos hecho en menos de la mitad de ese tiempo. Después de esa bonita experiencia, no hemos vuelto a comprar muebles de armado en casa y de las cosas que hemos comprado posterior a eso, procuramos leer muy bien el manual antes de ponerlas en funcionamiento.
