El Patchwork es un tipo de costura que cosiste en la unión de pequeños retazos de telas de diferentes colores y diseños, cosidas entre sí por los bordes tradicionalmente a mano. Es decir, consiste en unir todos los retacitos de tela, ya sea, para formar la secuencia de una imagen o simplemente formar una pieza entera. Así mismo estas piezas pueden formar parte de otra pieza más grande como manteles, edredones entre otros, o haciendo piezas más pequeñas como carteras juegos de baños o hasta cuadros,es como un especie de rompecabezas donde al final todo calza perfectamente, y te permite realizar todo aquello que la creatividad te presente, se puede hacer con esta técnica de costura que a mi parecer es un arte, que lleva constancia y dedicación para obtener excelentes resultados, este es el oficio o hobby de mi suegra desde hace muchísimos años, aunque existen técnicas más actualizadas, ella prefiere hacerlos a mano, para ella les da más valor y tradición a la pieza.



Este tipo de costura siempre me ha parecido fascínate y única que mayormente podemos observar en la cultura norteamericana, a diferencia de mi país donde esto no es tan común, desde hace muchos años estoy entre la familia de mi esposo, casi 20 para ser más precisos, y siempre me gusto acompañar a mi suegra a las expo ferias de manualidades y esas cosas porque admiro mucho este tipo de trabajo, y fui aprendiendo la importancia de la calidad de las telas, los patrones y las nuevas tendencias, forman parte de este mundo, es importante recalcar que ella no lo hace para la venta, es para ella y para los miembros de la familia, y por lo menos en mi casa los edredones que nos ha regalado, los cuido como una reliquia y así enseño a mi hija a cuidar los suyos, ustedes saben para usarlo los días domingos y las fiestas de resto prefiero guardarlos, porque además del gran esfuerzo de su elaboración está el esmero y amor con que ella los realiza.


Me encantaría algún momento de mi vida aprender hacer este tipo de manualidad, ella además realiza, decoupage, croché, punto de cruz entre otros pero la verdad el Patchwork es mi favorito, no hay quien se resista a mostrar su admiración, ante alguno de sus trabajos de los cuales tienen algunos por realizar hace años y todavía no ha terminado por falta de tiempo o material, su zona de trabajo es un área delicada, con todas sus herramientas bien cuidadas que fue adquiriendo con el pasar de los años, todo organizado en retacitos de tela, con colores que hacen juego entre sí , y que forman parte de un gran patrón, entre los pasos de esta técnica esta marcar delicadamente cada pieza con el patrón previamente realizado, para luego cortar, y unir cosiendo a mano con pequeñas agujas, imagínense todo esto para realizar un edredón, que aparte de todo esto, debe ser forrado y relleno con guata, les aseguro que no es imposibles pero tampoco nada fácil.


Asimismo este tipo de costura es importantes para las personas de la tercera edad, porque muchos especialistas a nivel mundial consideran y recomiendan el patchwork, para el cuidado y prevención de enfermedades como el alzheimer por que estimula la memoria y la mantiene activa, ya que, se debe recordar la información de cada segmento de la pieza o el orden de costura y color, para no pasarse ningun paso en la pieza que se está realizando. Asimismo, se trabaja la concentración, la disciplina y la atención voluntaria para conseguir una sistematización de la tarea, y asi lograr como objetivo final una pieza delicada y de calidad.


Ella pasa los 70 años y a pesar de eso sigue activa en sus manualidades, puede decirles que son numerosos los cursos que hemos realizado juntas, de cocina, costura y pare usted de contar. Mi objetivo, es aprender algún día este hermoso arte y poder mantenerlo de generación en generación, porque es hermoso y vale la pena hacer que perdure en el tiempo.
