Hablar de videojuegos siempre me causa emoción, desde muy temprana edad estuve rodeado de gente que le encantaba este tipo de distracción. Hay muchas historias que podría contar sobre cosas logradas o experiencias vividas a través de los videojuegos, hoy quiero compartirles algunas de ellas, en especial como me volví ahorrador para obtener un Nintendo 64 y poder disfrutar de mis juegos favoritos.

Talking about videogames always makes me excited, from a very early age I was surrounded by people who loved this kind of distraction. There are many stories I could tell about things achieved or experiences lived through video games, today I want to share some of them, especially how I became thrifty to get a Nintendo 64 and enjoy my favorite games.
Recuerdo que en mi casa de mi abuela habia un Nintendo Americano, mis tíos que ya no vivían con mi abuela, cada uno tenía su Nintendo en sus casas, y a veces los fines de semana se reunían a jugar en casa de mi abuela en familia, claro en ese tiempo los juegos eran muy diferentes, los juegos que el equipo tenía incorporados no dejaban de ser divertidos para la época. Más de una vez se resolvieron impases familiares gracias al compartir que se hacía en torno al Nintendo. Como la vez que mis abuelos estaban peleados, llevaban un par de días sin hablarse, pero ellos eran fanáticos de un juego de fichas llamado Othello en el Nintendo, y aunque se podía jugar contra la computadora, para ellos no resultaba divertido por el nivel que poseían. Así que recuerdo que mi abuela jugaba con cierto fastidio y al cabo de una hora aproximadamente apagaba el Nintendo y el televisor y se iba a la cocina a tomarse un café con un cigarro, mientras mi abuelo acababa de terminar el suyo y se iba al cuarto a jugar Othello. Luego mi abuela entró al cuarto y vio al viejo jugando solo y desganado el juego Othello, ella se sentó a observar sus jugadas sin decir ni una palabra, y tomó uno de los controles, mi abuelo reseteo el juego y empezó una nueva partida versus, y así se pusieron a jugar sin hablarse, al cabo de un rato poco a poco empezaron a decirse cosas del juego tipo -estas trancada de esta no sales- o -que va va viejo, se viene la remontada- y así, hasta que rompieron ese muro imaginario que los tenía tan distanciados. Yo era un niño muy pequeño y poco entendía lo que ocurría, pero me pareció divertido y algo linda la situación. Puedo decir que Othello reconcilió a mis abuelos, un buen logro para los videojuegos.

I remember that in my grandmother's house there was an American Nintendo, my uncles who no longer lived with my grandmother, each one had his Nintendo in their homes, and sometimes on weekends they gathered to play at my grandmother's house as a family, of course at that time the games were very different, the games that the computer had incorporated were still fun for the time. More than once family impasses were solved thanks to the sharing that was done around the Nintendo. Like the time my grandparents were fighting, they hadn't spoken to each other for a couple of days, but they were fans of a tile game called Othello on the Nintendo, and even though you could play against the computer, it wasn't fun for them because of the level they were at. So I remember my grandmother playing with some annoyance and after an hour or so she would turn off the Nintendo and the TV and go to the kitchen to have a coffee and a cigarette, while my grandfather finished his and went to the bedroom to play Othello. Then my grandmother entered the room and saw the old man playing alone and listlessly the game Othello, she sat down to watch his moves without saying a word, and took one of the controls, my grandfather reset the game and started a new versus game, and so they started to play without talking to each other, after a while little by little they started to say things to each other about the game like -you're stuck in this game you won't get out- or -what's going old man, the comeback is coming- and so on, until they broke that imaginary wall that kept them so distant from each other. I was a very small child and I didn't understand what was happening, but I found the situation amusing and somewhat cute. I can say that Othello reconciled my grandparents, a good achievement for video games.
Uno de los logros que tuve en mi juventud temprana se debe a los videojuegos. Apenas y estaba entrando en el liceo o secundaria, mis padres se habían separado y las cosas en la familia estaban mal en todo sentido, nuestra economía apenas daba para vivir. Yo veía como mis compañeros de clases podían darse el lujo de jugar varias horas en las salas de juego, además algunos tenían Nintendo 64 en sus casas, hablaban de trucos y logros, yo me sentía muy mal porque apenas y podía jugar solo cuando iba a una de sus casas o tal vez guardaba dinero sacrificando alguna comida para ir a jugar en la sala de juegos.
La cosa es que me propuse trabajar más, porque sí, a esa edad ya estaba trabajando por lo mencionado anteriormente, y con mi trabajo extra iba reuniendo poco a poco para comprarme un Nintento 64, era un sueño que aunque lo veía lejos no lo veía imposible. Un día mientras veía el periódico en la parte de anuncios, noté que alguien estaba vendiendo un Nintendo 64 usado a un precio razonable con un control y tres juegos, todavía recuerdo los juegos, Crash Bandicoot, GoldenEye 007 y Mario Kart 64, todo original, justo tenía la cantidad solicitada en ahorros, mis ojos brillaron y me emocioné muchísimo. Le comenté a mis hermanos y rápidamente fuimos a un teléfono público, en esa época usábamos tarjetas plásticas para hacer llamadas, el señor que me atendió fue amable y me citó para vernos en el centro de la ciudad, fuimos al lugar y efectivamente, cuando revisé el equipo quedé más emocionado, pues estaba como nuevo, aun tenía su caja, todo estaba impecable, le di el dinero en efectivo y me llevé el equipo a casa. Esa noche no dormimos estrenando el Nintendo 64, fue un logro gigantesco, en todo el barrio éramos los únicos que teníamos semejante equipo.

One of the achievements I had in my early youth was due to video games. I was just entering high school, my parents had separated and things in the family were bad in every way, our economy was barely enough to live on. I could see how my classmates could afford to play several hours in the arcades, some of them had Nintendo 64 in their homes, they talked about tricks and achievements, I felt very bad because I could barely play only when I went to one of their homes or maybe I saved money sacrificing some food to go play in the arcade.
The thing is that I decided to work more, because yes, at that age I was already working for the aforementioned, and with my extra work I was gathering little by little to buy a Nintento 64, it was a dream that although I saw it far I did not see it impossible. One day while I was watching the newspaper in the ads section, I noticed that someone was selling a used Nintendo 64 at a reasonable price with a controller and three games, I still remember the games, Crash Bandicoot, GoldenEye 007 and Mario Kart 64, all original, I just had the requested amount in savings, my eyes sparkled and I was very excited. I told my brothers and quickly went to a public phone, at that time we used plastic cards to make calls, the man who attended me was kind and quoted me to meet in the center of the city, we went to the place and indeed, when I checked the equipment I was more excited, because it was like new, even had its box, everything was impeccable, I gave him the money in cash and I took the equipment home. That night we did not sleep premiering the Nintendo 64, it was a gigantic achievement, in the whole neighborhood we were the only ones who had such equipment.
Yo estaba muy orgulloso, cada día veía mi aparato y entendía que si pude lograr eso entonces podía lograr cualquier otra cosa, así fue, después de eso trabajé muy duro y me compré un Discman último modelo, más juegos para el Nintendo, otro control, hasta una guitarra acústica, y así sucesivamente, eso sin descuidar el aporte a mi casa. Fue una experiencia que me marcó para bien, creo que el amor a los videojuegos me movió a gestionar mejor el dinero de mi trabajo y también a trabajar duro para conseguir algunas cosas materiales de manera honrada y decente.
Los videojuegos pueden ayudarnos a sanar y ser mejores personas si se gestionan bien, pero como todo en la vida, llevados de una mala forma pueden ocasionarnos un gran desastre en todos los ámbitos. Personalmente, las experiencias que me han aportado los videojuegos han sido para bien.

I was very proud, every day I saw my device and understood that if I could achieve that then I could achieve anything else, so it was, after that I worked very hard and bought a Discman last model, more games for the Nintendo, another controller, even an acoustic guitar, and so on, that without neglecting the contribution to my house. It was an experience that marked me for good, I think that the love of video games moved me to better manage the money from my work and also to work hard to get some material things in an honest and decent way.
Video games can help us to heal and be better people if they are managed well, but like everything in life, if they are handled in a bad way they can cause us a great disaster in all areas. Personally, the experiences that video games have given me have been for the best.
