🦉 The common rosefinch (Carpodacus erythrinus)

  • Carpodacus Greek: karpos fruit, daknō to bite
  • erythrinus erythros (Greek, lat.) red

These birds have beautiful and interesting coloring. Females are colored brown and from afar are barely distinguishable from common sparrows. Young males are colored like females. But adult males are colored a beautiful crimson, and the older the male, the stronger and more saturated his coloring.

With the arrival of spring, namely in mid-May, these birds can already be expected in the forests. During the mating season, males sit on branches for a long time and sing a song that sounds like "nice to meet you!" After the mating season, the birds seem to disappear, they are hidden and do not make a sound.
