🦉 The common whitethroat or greater whitethroat (Curruca communis)

  • Curruca is an unidentified bird name mentioned in the poems of the ancient Roman poet Juvenal
  • communis (lat.) ordinary, common.

I meet this bird every year in the meadows outside the city, in early May. It is good in the meadows at this time, since it is an open space, and in spring there is no dense vegetation as in summer. Therefore, these birds are clearly visible on bare bushes.

This bird requires a special approach. You can approach it carefully, I mean a male who is demonstratively singing a song on a branch, but you need to know the limit and not violate personal boundaries. If you get too close, the male will stop singing, become restless, and jump grumpily from branch to branch. Therefore, you need to take a few steps back, and then the male will start singing the song again.
