This unusual and interesting species of woodpecker arrives in early May, when there is no longer snow in the forest. Males look for territories and sing mating songs to attract females. For some reason, their voices remind me of the voices of birds of prey; there is something similar, for example, to the voice of the Hobby.

Despite the fact that this bird belongs to the species of woodpeckers, it is still very different from them. She does not peck the bark of trees in search of food or to hollow out a home. The bird occupies old abandoned woodpecker holes or other natural crevices in trees. Overall, it is just a typical insectivorous bird.
