🦉 The brambling (Fringilla montifringilla)
- Fringilla (lat.) Finch; fi nco (old German)
- montifringilla lat .: mōns, montis mountain, mountain range
In my opinion these are very strange birds. They appear a little later than finches, which, by the way, are close relatives of them. But, by the way, once I met them very early at the end of March when the snow had not even begun to melt. But this does not mean that they appeared in this forest, they just flew past somewhere.
And this is how it is always with them, it’s unclear. It seems that in April they appear in the forests, but by mid-May they disappear somewhere. I only met them once in the summer.
Sexual dimorphism is pronounced. Males have a black head, with bright orange plumage near the head. Females have a gray head, and the orange spot is faded
