Plus One Kite

Taking It All In

Adding plus one to your life, one is forever grateful to be able to witness new every day in something happening in nature.

Yellow-billed Kite - Milvus aegyptius was my present today, you know when you walk you look into the bush or trees, I mean look, slightest movement catches your eye, across a garden into neighbours tree another house away it was happening in the big tree.

How I jeered and cheered a couple of months ago, too big to simply cut down (as is happening too often of late), this tree stood tall and proud. This morning gave me my first glimpse of this majestic bird enjoying its snack obviously sneaked off from a raw meat platter in somebody's garden waiting to go onto the fire.

We had a family braai (BBQ with wood) yesterday, ever so tasty! Perhaps between August to May when this bird visits I should start putting some chicken necks out for them to enjoy a morsel, I have seen them lift frogs from roads being road-kill or smaller birds, never seen one enjoying it's snack before.

Here was my experience, not close, close enough to zoom in and manage a few captures that did not take to ripping the flesh in total contentment.

Might have been a piece of meat put out for a pet in a garden these opportunistic birds will scavenge or take fresh. An intra-African migratory bird of prey that breeds in tall trees which I have yet to find. Sticks and man-made soft materials are used in nesting material by the monogamous and territorial bird.

All in all a great day happy and content in nature with with feathered friends showcasing their achievement in looking after themselves without needing human assistance most times.
