Bubbling Call During Rain

Free Theme - Rainbird

After bumper rain falls to start our Summer I heard the warbling or bubbling call louder than the dove but similar in sound, quite early in the morning then again during rainfall later, a species of the cuckoo, it's our Burchell’s coucal (Centropus burchellii).

He runs beneath thickets or coastal bush, scrambles up branches on occasion, short flight takes them where they want to be, not graceful by any stretch of the imagination.

Living off mainly snails, insects, other birds nests, lizards, rodents, some love them others not so much! Previous content description about the Burchell's coucal a couple of years ago when we first met them.

Running around using thick undergrowth is what they favour most, like cats stalking through the bush when hunting down prey.

Short video included to show how shy and wary they are, enjoy! Here is is running up and down the garden capturing flying ants as they rise out from the grounds below, peanut butter yummy!

Happy December to one and all, happy Hive Power Up Day the last of the year!
