Larry Is Alive #170 October 24, 2023: I Am Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for Monday, the 24th day of October, 2023. The weather played a gamble on us today. In the morning, it looked cloudy and uninspiring. However, as the day wears on it cleard and becwme quite sunny. I left my umbrella at home and left. Towards the close of work the heavens opened up and poured out its contents. Larry was caught up in this dilemma and as he kept observing face of the weather decides to turns his attention to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from the Lebanon. He finds out that on this day in 1983, truckloads of high explosives were driven into the French paratrooper and U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut by suicide bombers, killing 58 French soldiers and 241 American service members.

From Beirut, Lebanon, Larry moves over to China. He finds out that on this day in 2003, Soong Mei-ling, [Soong also spelt Sung, Mei-ling also spelt Mayling, also called Madame Chiang Kai-shek or Chiang Mei-ling], the second wife of Nationalist Chinese President Chiang Kai-shek and a strong political figure in her own right, passed away at the age of 106 in New York, U.SA.

From China, Larry goes to the world of technology. He finds out that on this day in 2001, Apple released the iPod, a portable media player that became one of the most successful and revolutionary devices of the early 2000s.

From the world of tech, Larry goes back to the world of music. He finds out that on this day in 1998, Britney Spears, an American singer, released the single...Baby One More Time, which was accompanied by a Lolita-style music video and became a tremendous smash, propelling her to stardom.

Baby One More Time was really a hit and the rave of the moment then. Larry enjoys it too and will be glad to share the 🔗 for your listening pleasure

From the world of music, Larry goes to Hungary. He finds out that on this day in 1956, he Hungarian Revolution began with a massive demonstration in Budapest.

From Hungary, Larry moves to the world of sports. He finds out that on this day in 1940, Pelé, whose name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento, a Brazilian football (soccer) player who was probably the most famous and possibly the highest-paid athlete in the world at the time, was born in Três Corações, Brazil. Pelé was a member of the Brazilian national teams that won three World Cup titles (1958, 1962, and 1970).

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in history from the world of international organizations. He finds out that on this day in 1956, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was established with the goal of expanding atomic energy's contribution to world peace.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
