Margarita is a Venezuelan island and this song was composed by Simón Diaz, one of the most emblematic musicians of national folklore. Our unforgettable "Uncle Simón" composed this song on a special occasion: it was his wife's birthday, they were living on Margarita Island, he was not yet known and the economic situation was quite precarious.
Despite his work effort, he could not get enough money to buy a gift for his wife and that night he told her: "I don't have money with which to buy you a gift but... I give you the moon of Margarita and the Sea of the Antilles" . In a few minutes the inspiration for a melody came to him to create a song basedon his primary idea and that night he also gave her this song as birthday gift.
