Hive Open MIc Week 132 - Marsinah (Cover) by Indonesia Bersatu Band

Hello brothers and sisters, We are IndonesiaBersatu, a Punk Rock band from Medan, Indonesia. We are here again to entertain you and also share the music video we played in the Hive #OpenMic community which has entered its 132nd week. So, this week's theme is “Woman Life Freedom” which has been chosen by spotlight artist @discouragedones. very interesting. In this theme, we performed a cover song entitled “Marsinah” by the punk rock band from Jakarta, “Marjinal”.

Marsinah is a tough woman who works as a factory worker. In 1993 in the New Order era, the governor of East Java gave the good news to the working class that the minimum wage in the province was 20%. But, PT. Catur Putra Surya, where Marsinah works, objected to this. So Marsinah invited her co-workers to protest.

At that time, Marsinah and her colleagues demanded a 20% salary increase according to local government regulations. They went on strike for several days. Finally, the company wanted to increase the salaries of employees. However, after the demands were reached, 13 people from the company were taken to the military headquarters and forced to resign. Because they are accused of inciting other workers not to come to work.

Marsinah is not silent when her co-workers are forced to quit. She went to the military office to inquire about the whereabouts of her friends. Since then, Marsinah was declared missing and was found to have become a corpse 2 days later. The forensic results found several bullets in the pubic bone and wounds on the body due to physical abuse. So far, it is not known who the perpetrator is.

Marsinah became an icon of working-class fighters. Marsinah's story was also filmed and several novel writers also made stories of her struggles. Marsinah is a heroine for the working class. She dared to oppose capitalists for the welfare of the workers. Even though Marsinah is gone, her spirit is still there. Even a sculpture artist made a statue of Marsinah which was placed on her grave as a form of respect and her struggle against injustice.

Indonesian Lyric

"Kulihat
Buruh perempuan
Berkeringat
Membasahi bumi
Yang gelap

Energi yang kau curahkan
Begitu besar telah kurasakan
Terhanyut dalam kesombongan
Terlupakan

Gemerlap cahayamu
Membentangi garis kehidupan
Ada darah rintih dicaci-maki
Kau hadapi

Keringat dan ketegaranmu
Mengalir deras tak ternilai
Hanya tetes darah dan air mata
Yang kau terima

O-o-o ... Marsinah
Kau termarjinalkan
O-o-o-o ... Marsinah
Matimu tak sia-sia"

English Lyric

"I see
female workers
Sweating
Wet the earth
the dark one

The energy you pour out
So big I have felt
Drowning in arrogance
Forgotten

Your light shines
Stretching the line of life
There is a moan of blood being abused
you face

Your sweat and stubbornness
Priceless flowing
Just drops of blood and tears
What you receive

O-o-o... Marsinah
You are marginalized
O-o-o-o... Marsinah
Your death was not in vain"

The place where we recorded this video at our friend's coffee shop, his name is @bayoecakra which is located on Jl. Cahaya, Medan City, Indonesia. We recorded it using a Cannon brand mirrorless camera. For the sound produced, I edited using Adobe Audition CC to reduce noise in the sound recording, and the final process of editing the video was using Adobe Premiere Pro CC software. That's all we can say, hope you like it and thank you. Peace to all of us.

Below is their original version of the song
