Claire Mobey & Jasper Dick Live @ Salt & Sage - Open Mic Night!

This was our 1st gig out on the West Coast of Cape Town and what a rocker of an evening it was. @JasperDick and I had the awesome opportunity to totally rock it out thanks to @MatthewJohnRoux and his son Dan Roux, arranging this magnificent evening which was aimed at showcasing some of the area's best local talent.

From extraordinary food to the best service ever - with staff and management going totally above and beyond to accommodate this exuberant bunch of musos on this very special night- I would like to send a very special shoutout to our host venue: Salt & Sage on the beachfront in Table View.

We shared the stage with some truly incredible artists, from the seasoned professionals to some seriously awesome new and up
and coming acts. It was truly an honour to be among them. The list for the night included:

  1. Zoë Stroebel with Rae Swart
  2. Sarah Cobley and Raphi Tzouvanni with Rae Swart
  3. Jaendre Olivier
  4. Lyle Nel
  5. Dan Paulse
  6. Silvana and Rebecca
  7. Dani Steyn with Matt Roux
  8. Warren Wazman
  9. Claire Mobey and Jasper Dick
  10. Lukin Joshua

@JasperDick is far more seasoned than me, so I rely on his bravery to get me through my nerves! We were both giddy with anticipation though as we were taken on a real rollercoaster ride of diverse and incredible acts before we had our turn. When you start out you generally get to go first, but I have noticed that we're getting the chance to play later in the evening, which is quite an honour, but murder on the nerves. Jasper armed me with a shaker and a tambourine, and after the previous act's rendition of "Personal Jesus" I was ready to set that stage on fire!

We performed 3 songs for the evening, "South Bound Plane"(Jasper original) and "A Song of Hope" and "Demon's Lurk" (which are my originals). We are starting to really develop a unique and blended sound now, so I think our originals are going to become more and more "shared" by us both as we venture into the future as a duo/ band, as opposed to two individual artists. We will of course, still be exploring the music world in our own way as individuals, but I'm super proud of us and how beautifully our music has come together. Mobey-Dick will be encompassing many of our originals and before we know it I'm sure we'll be struggling to differentiate between who's is who's! So, Why not just be a band then? Hehehe!

Here are our videos from the evening. All footage and photos in this post were taken by @ZakLudick, my immensely awesome, patient, loving and supportive husband (almost: nudge-nudge-wink-wink!).
