In a head-to-head comparison, Digital Foundry tested the PlayStation 5 Pro’s PSSR using Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, a title from Insomniac Games, Sony's first-party studio. Although the game was tested on both PC and PlayStation, and despite different hardware, the tests provide an early glimpse of how the PS5 Pro's upscaling technology stacks up against established PC counterparts.
While the PC version of Ratchet & Clank uses a different Dynamic Resolution Scaling (DRS) approach, the experts adjusted the settings to match the anticipated configuration of the PlayStation 5 Pro. With PSSR activated, the results were clear: Sony's new technology outperformed AMD's FSR 3.1 in several key areas, particularly in anti-aliasing and motion handling.
