Ruins of Caracas' first hydroelectric power station

Greetings to all! This is my first time in this community. I want to share the pictures of the ruins of the first hydroelectric plant that supplied energy to the city of Caracas in 1898.

El Encanto Station was designed by engineer Ricardo Zuloaga, who managed that, at that time, Caracas entered the list of the few cities in the world that had a continuous electric flow generated by water current.

Today we can find the ruins of the station. Nature has taken its course and taken over the spaces that were once a plant.

We see the rusted turbines and the structure in general invaded by trees, roots and dry leaves.

The station was in operation until 1911 when it was changed to a larger, more modern generator.

Thanks to this station, Caracas was the first city in Latin America to have remotely produced electricity. Engineer Zuloaga installed the hydroelectric plant in the Guaire River Canyon*** to take advantage of the strong currents of the river to move the turbine that generated electricity.

The Zuloaga curve is located on the same route. To enter it is advisable to have guides and people who know the area. The beautiful and ancient stones give this place a priceless natural value.

The cave is embedded in marbles and in the different studies that have been carried out, a great variety of minerals have been found.
