Janvent! Day 1

So this is an apt image to portray how I feel this morning. Christmas has come and gone, New Year's has been celebrated, and now I'm spent. Done. Exhausted. Yet the tree is still lit, because it's warm and welcoming.

Today will be spent beginning to tear down Christmas and reclaim the living space in the house. It's bittersweet, of course; Christmas and the decorations and lights are always so festive and fun, yet it's time for winter proper to have it's due and time for the house to return to a sense of normalcy in time for Easter and spring.

That said, I find that I'm not quite ready to move on from Christmas yet. Don't you sometimes wish that you could have Christmas all year long? At least, without the cold and snow, perhaps.

Introducing Janvent! While out finishing my shopping mid-December I came across this advent calendar in a store merrily named As Seen on TV.

I had picked up this particular box to give a gentle shake; it rattled and clinked and clanked like the cheap plastic and aluminum toys that used to fill my own stocking as a child. I had to have it, and knew immediately that I would keep it saved until January.

The first day's toy is a fun little blacksmith puzzle. The goal of the puzzle is simply to remove the two pieces and then, of course, to put it back together again! I need to give some thought to working on it myself or giving it to one of my boys. Or both!

Happy Janvent!
