“He who has overcome his fears will truly be free.”
Aristotle.

It was few weeks to vacation. The FCS(Fellowship of Christian Students) always organise presentation which is used to end the fellowship for the term and it requires students that have any special presentation to notify the FCS committee, so they include their names.

A group of students came to me , they are in Jss1,they told me they are interested in presenting something, since am their class teacher I had to guide them. I was amazed they could gather themselves in group, honestly, I loved their courage, understanding that these students are just coming from primary school, there was no pressure whatsoever on them, but they still decided to contribute, they were so eager to feature in it

They rehearsed well amidst themselves, then called me to watch them sing, it was okay. On the day of presentation, they called them, they were four in number, when it got to Ephraim's turn, he started crying, everyone found this strange, this particular boy is the chatterbox in his class, he is always noticed by all teachers, and often referred to as a talkative and he is always cautioned in class, but on this day he couldn't utter a word talk more of singing.

The rest of his group members couldn't continue singing too because they were so surprised he didn't perform well and they were seen whispering, which showed they weren't happy with it, it was written all over them. The counsellor had to call him to ask what happened, he kept on crying and this could only be STAGE FRIGHT

WHAT IS STAGE FRIGHT?
Stage fright is the fear of speaking in public, being nervous or scared of performance in public. No doubt at some points in our lives we might have had this kind of phobia(fear) before and it all has to do with self confidence and self esteem. Many opportunities have been lost, job interview left unattended to, seminar that flop, feeling incapable, because of the fear of seeing strange faces or facing the crowd.

HOW TO OVERCOME STAGE FRIGHT

Prepare yourself ahead

Talk to someone close to you

Control your breathe

Have confidence in yourself

Stay positive

Focus on the materials/points you have gathered

Believe you can do it

All these have helped me in overcoming my stage fright. I hope you find it useful
