It is incredible to think that in this edition of the World Cup, Argentina started on the wrong foot, losing their first game against Saudi Arabia and then everything turned out for the best. I think that since then this team took action on the matter and improved more and more, until reaching the end and achieving the long-awaited victory. World Cups are always exciting and keep us all on our toes, but this time it was even more emotional for all of us. From the first moment, the mystique surrounded the whole game and we like to think that the signs we saw everywhere were true, because in the end, after 36 years, victory was for us ❤️.
Es increíble pensar que en esta edición del Mundial, Argentina empezó con el pie izquierdo perdiendo su primer partido ante Arabia Saudita y luego todo resultó de la mejor manera. Creo que desde entonces este equipo tomó cartas en el asunto y mejoraron cada vez más, hasta llegar al final y conseguir el tan ansiado triunfo. Las copas del mundo siempre son emocionantes y logran que todos estemos al pendiente, pero esta vez fue aún más emotivo para todos nosotros. Desde el momento uno la mística rodeó todo el juego y nos gusta pensar que las señales que veíamos en todos lados eran ciertas, porque al final, después de 36 años, la victoria fue para nosotros ❤️.
After winning the semifinal against Croatia, no one could think of anything other than the last game against France that took place this Sunday, December 18 at 12 PM, Argentina time. We were all making jokes about whether we were going to have a late breakfast or early lunch, but I knew I had to continue my drinking beer cabal either way. It was very funny to see how we all wanted to repeat what we were doing in the previous winning matches, and it worked because we won again 😅.
Después de ganar la semifinal ante Croacia, nadie podía pensar en otra cosa que no sea el último partido contra Francia que se llevó a cabo este domingo 18 de Diciembre a las 12 PM, hora de Argentina. Todos hacíamos chistes sobre si íbamos a hacer un desayuno tardío o adelantaríamos el almuerzo, pero yo sabía que sea como sea tenía que continuar mi cábala de tomar cerveza. Fue muy gracioso ver como todos queríamos repetir lo que estuvimos haciendo en los partidos ganadores anteriores, y funcionó porque volvimos a ganar 😅.
If the match against the Netherlands had been heart-stopping, this was even worse. We came from having a 2-0 victory in the first half but how could it be otherwise, at some point we had to suffer. In the second half, the French team managed to tie the score in less than 5 minutes and almost at the end of regulation time. This is exactly what happened with Saudi Arabia and then with the Netherlands, it couldn't be that the same thing was happening in the final.
This result forced them to go into overtime for another half hour, in which in the second half Argentina managed to score a third goal but there were still about 5 minutes of play to go. And what happened? France tied again 3-3. I think that more than one will have had a heart attack because it really was incredible. At this point I could no longer contain my nerves so I went outside and I no longer wanted to hear or see anything else 😂.
Si el partido ante Países Bajos había sido infartante, este fue aún peor. Veníamos de tener una victoria por 2-0 en el primer tiempo pero como no podía ser de otra forma, en algún momento teníamos que sufrir. En el segundo tiempo, el equipo frances logró empatar el marcador en menos de 5 minutos y casi al final del tiempo reglamentario. Esto es justamente lo que pasó con Arabia Saudita y luego con Países Bajos, no podía ser que en la final estuviera sucediendo lo mismo.
Este resultado obligó a ir al alargue de media hora más, en el que en la segunda mitad Argentina logró concretar un tercer gol pero todavía faltaban como 5 minutos de juego. ¿Y qué sucedió? Francia volvió a empatar 3-3. Yo creo que más de uno se habrá infartado porque realmente era increíble. Yo en este punto ya no podía contener mis nervios así que me fui afuera y ya no quise escuchar ni ver más nada 😅.
And the one who was on the verge of a nervous breakdown will have finished fainting when in the last minute of extra time, France had a clear chance to score that was saved by the Argentine goalkeeper Dibu Martínez. France's Randal Kolo Muani came face to face with the goalkeeper, who, stretching as far as he could, defended the goal perfectly. BUT we had to suffer and the game was defined by penalties, the worst moment and that nobody wants it to come. Just today, calmer, I was able to see the repetition of what that moment was. Due to a penalty saved by Dibu and a missed goal by France, Argentina managed to take advantage on the scoreboard. Finally, with the last goal by Gonzalo Montiel (who was the same player who was charged with a penalty for France for committing a defensive offense and the game was 2-2), Argentina achieved the victory and the emotion was uncontainable. They say that football always gives revenge, and that's how it was for our team 😀.
Y el que estaba al borde del colapso nervioso habrá terminado de desmayarse cuando en el último minuto del alargue, Francia tuvo una clara oportunidad de gol que fue salvada por el arquero Argentino Dibu Martínez. El jugador de Francia Randal Kolo Muani quedó cara a cara con el arquero, quién estirándose lo más que pudo defendió el arco a la perfección. Si esa pelota hubiese entrado justo a los últimos segundos del juego, hoy la historia sería otra.
PERO teníamos que sufrir y el partido se definió por penales, el peor momento y que nadie quiere que llegue. Yo recién hoy, más tranquila, pude ver la repetición de lo que fue ese momento. Por un penal atajado por Dibu y un gol errado por Francia, Argentina logró sacar ventaja en el marcador. Finalmente, con el último gol de Gonzalo Montiel (quién fue el mismo jugador al que le cobraron penal para Francia por haber cometido una infracción en la defensa y el partido estuvo 2-2), Argentina logró el triunfo y la emoción fue incontenible. Dicen que el fútbol siempre da revancha, y así fue para nuestro equipo 😃.
This moment was what we were all dreaming of all this time, to see how the Argentine team won the world cup. The great moment came when Leonel Messi was able to raise the grand prize and the stadium exploded with emotion. In the end, his dream and that of all of us came true: to see him happy ❣️. After 36 years, the great prize would come to our country: I hadn't even been born when it last happened, so I knew this would be a historic moment.
Este momento fue el que todos estuvimos soñando este tiempo, ver cómo el equipo argentino ganaba la Copa del Mundo. El gran momento llegó cuando Leonel Messi pudo alzar el gran premio y el estadio estalló de emoción. Al final, se cumplió su sueño y el de todos nosotros: verlo feliz a él ❣️. Después de 36 años, el gran premio vendría para nuestro país: yo ni siquiera había naciedo cuando sucedió la última vez, así que sabía que esto sería un momento histórico.
As soon as the match ended, people began to gather in different parts of the country to celebrate in style. Even where I live, which is not such a big city, people gathered to make a bit of noise and sing in support of the big win. Everyone was happy, there were no riots, and the feeling of joy was the same for everyone ❤️.
Ni bien terminó el partido, la gente empezó a concentrarse en distintos puntos del país para celebrar a lo grande. Incluso en donde yo vivo, que no es una ciudad tan masiva, la gente se reunió para hacer un poco de ruido y cantar apoyando el gran triunfo. Todos estaban felices, no había disturbios y el sentimiento de alegría era el mismo para todos ❤️.

On Sunday people stayed up celebrating until the wee hours of the morning (as if it were not Monday the next day). The largest concentration in the country was of course in the Obelisk of the City of Buenos Aires, where the fans went to do all their festivities. Then, as it was announced that the players of "La Scaloneta" would arrive in the country on Tuesday, the president of Argentina decreed a national holiday so that people would have the opportunity to go and welcome the team at this historic moment 😃.
El domingo la gente se quedó celebrando hasta altas horas de la madrugada (como si no fuera lunes al día siguiente). La mayor concentración del país por supuesto estuvo en el Obelisco de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, donde los hinchas fueron a hacer todos sus festejos. Luego, como se anunció que los jugadores de "La Scaloneta" llegarían al país el martes, el presidente de Argentina decretó feriado nacional para que la gente tuviera la oportunidad de ir a recibir al equipo en este momento histórico 😃.
As I had the day off from my other job, I went with my friends to the city center to join the festivities with all our compatriots. The amount of people that traveled on the train was incredible: thousands and thousands of people with the Argentina jersey, piling up hoping to see the bus with the players go by. The main avenues and highways to the city were closed, so there were people walking everywhere. Tuesday was quite a hot day, so the last thing they needed was drinks and beer to cool off 😃.
Como tuve el día libre en mi otro trabajo, fui con mis amigas al centro de la ciudad a acompañar los festejos con todos nuetros compatriotas. La cantidad de gente que viajaba en el tren era increíble: miles y miles de personas con la camiseta de Argentina amontonándose con la esperanza de ver pasar el micro con los jugadores. Las principales avenidas y autopistas de acceso a la ciudad estaban cerradas, así que había gente caminando por todas partes. El martes fue un día bastante caluroso, así que lo que menos faltaban eran bebidas y cerveza para refrescarse 😃.
At first it was said that the bus that would take the players of the national team would make a tour of the city and one of the points through which it would pass was along the highway in front of us, so it didn't take long for people to pile up there. The fans did not stop arriving, until at one point the number of police officers maintaining order was insufficient and the people scattered everywhere, completely covering the streets 😅.
En un principio se decía que el micro que llevaría a los jugadores de la selección haría todo un recorrido por la ciudad y uno de los puntos por los que pasaría era por la autopista que teníamos enfrente, así que la gente no tardó en amontonarse allí. Los hinchas no paraban de llegar, hasta que en un punto la cantidad de policias manteniendo el orden fue insuficiente y la gente se desparramó por todos lados cubriendo por completo las calles 😅.
The good thing about this massive celebration is that it was without riots between people. Millions of people gathered and no one fighting, all united singing and hugging. The only thing to highlight is that I don't know why the Argentine fan adopted the custom of climbing any high place to celebrate and that left some injured at the end of it all, but nothing more to complain about 😅.
Lo bueno de esta celebración masiva es que fue sin disturbios entre la gente. Millones de personas reunidas y nadie peleando, todos unidos cantando y abrazándose. Lo único para destacar es que no sé por qué el fan argentino adoptó la costumbre de subirse a cualquier lugar alto para festejar y eso dejó algunos heridos al final de todo, pero nada más de qué lamentarse 😅.
We waited for a long time to see if they would ever arrive, but due to the number of people on the street, we already imagined that it would be a bit impossible. On top of that, we also had no signal on our cell phones, so we were cut off from communication. After a few hours there, the news began to circulate that the bus could not move due to the amount of people and that finally the players would fly over the city by helicopter. Well, we didn't get to see Messi or the others up close but at least the overall celebration was amazing ❤️.
Estuvimos un buen rato esperando a ver si en algún momento llegaban pero por la cantidad de gente que había en la calle ya nos imáginabamos que iba a ser un poco imposible. Además de eso tampoco teníamos señal en los celulares, así que estábamos incomunicados. Después de unas cuantas horas ahí, empezó a circular la noticia de que el micro no podía avanzar por la cantidad de gente y que finalmente los jugadores sobrevolarían la ciudad en helicóptero. Bueno, no pudimos ver a Messi ni a los demás de cerca pero al menos la celebración en general fue increíble ❤️.
When the crowd started to loosen up a bit, we headed over to the Obelisk area to see what was going on. There were people everywhere, with music, food and of course, climbing to the highest available places. It is incredible to think that this only happened 2 times before in our history, in the years 1976 and 1986, and I was happy to be a part now in this year 2022 ❤️.
Cuando la muchedumbre empezó a descomprimirse un poco, nos acercamos a la zona del Obelisco para ver qué estaba sucediendo. Había gente por todos lados, con música, comida y por supuesto, subida a los lugares más altos disponibles. Es increíble pensar que esto solo sucedió 2 veces antes en nuestra historia, en los años 1976 y 1986, y yo estaba feliz de poder ser parte ahora en este año 2022 ❤️.
Unfortunately, this part of the city was somewhat ruined by the celebrations and the number of people who went (it is estimated that there are more than 5 million people in the streets), but with the organization that the City of Buenos Aires has, surely at these hours everything is in good condition again. Luckily most of the people went to celebrate healthily and as a family, and that is what stood out the most from this massive party. It was impossible not to catch the joyful spirit that everyone had ❤️.
Lamentablemente, esta parte de la ciudad si estaba algo arruinada por las celebraciones y la cantidad de gente que fue (se estiman más de 5 millones de personas en las calles), pero con la organización que tiene la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, seguramente a estas horas ya está todo en condiciones nuevamente. Por suerte la mayoría de la gente fue a festejar sanamente y en familia, y eso es lo que más se destacó de esta fiesta multitudinaria. Era imposible no contagiarse del espíritu alegre que tenían todos ❤️.
Without a doubt, this moment will remain in my heart forever as the day the entire country came together and had a reason for joy without distinguishing social classes, beliefs, genders or political thoughts. I think that Argentines needed a reason to celebrate, and that the people felt part of this achievement was a good way to do it. There may be many good and bad things in our society, but at least in this last month we were united and it's good that it was something as noble as sport. A great way to end this year 2022, for all of us, for the players, and for Lionel Messi, who now finally knows how much the World Cup weighs ❤️.
Sin dudas este momento quedará guardado en mi corazón por siempre como el día en que todo el país se unió y tuvo un motivo de alegría sin distinguir clases sociales, creencias, géneros o pensamientos políticos. Creo que los argentinos necesitábamos una razón para celebrar, y que el pueblo se haya sentido parte de este logro fue una buena manera de hacerlo. Podrán haber muchas cosas buenas y malas en nuestra sociedad, pero al menos en este último mes estuvimos unidos y que bueno que haya sido algo tan noble como el deporte. Gran manera de terminar este año 2022, para todos nosotros, para los jugadores, y para Lionel Messi, que ahora finalmente sabe cuánto pesa la Copa del Mundo ❤️.
