From the (2-2) stalemate at old trafford where manchester united failed to convert their abundant chances to put away a possessed and relentless sevilla side, I begin to ponder what were our chances of going through to the semi finals.

The days leading to the final showdown between the two sides must have filled all Manchester united fans with mixed feelings for the following reasons:

ACHILLES HEEL

The battle between the English and Spanish side has always left Manchester united with the short end of the stick and the sour taste of defeat.

Lets take a trip down memory lane, as far back 9th of August 2013 where Sevilla had the better of the Red devils in 3-1 showdown or better still fast forward to 21st February 2018 after 90+ minutes of UCL (UEFA Champions league) football left both fans with a tie of 0-0 and a mouth watering reverse fixture on the 13th March 2018, made the red devils fans watched their beloved team exit the competition.

But that is not enough to draw questions so we move to a not too recent battle, which took place on the 16th of August 2020 and had a scoreline of 2-1 in favor of Sevilla.

And now my bone of contention which still haunt my dreams, happened on 13th April 2023, After a dominant display from the Manchester side which gave the English side a 2-0 lead at the first half. And the questions of redemption but the second half came with a twist of Captain own goal and Defenders observing siesta on duty that lead to a final score of 2-2, A numb Mexican standoff.

Back to the present, 20th of April Year 2023 gave birth to a one sided beat-down of 3-0 one again in shell shocking favor of Sevilla. Leaving fans of the Red devils with questions like: Is Sevilla exploiting an Achilles heel ? Are sevilla manchester united kryptonite?

WAY FORWARD?

The raging battle this season had two starting defenders Racheal Varane and Lisandro Martinez and striker Anthony Martial added to the injury list.
Could this spell danger for the United faithful or would the team shake of the sting of defeat and raise to finish the season in style? I guess time will tell.
