The Champions League group stage has come to an end, and just like every year, we were treated to some great games and many surprises, so now I would like to review which were the 5 most disappointing teams of this group stage, and perhaps, of the competition in general.
La fase de grupos de la Champions League ha llegado a su final, y tal cual como todos los años, nos regaló verdaderos partidazos y muchas sorpresas, por lo que ahora me gustaría repasar cuáles fueron los 5 equipos más decepcionantes de está fase de grupos, y tal vez, de la competición en general.
5- Sevilla:
The Sevillians have had a lot of problems at the start of the season, as in addition to their poor showing in Europe, they have also been very disappointing in the Spanish league, being closer to the relegation places than to the top of the league.
Their transfer market was also very disappointing, losing several of their most important players, but despite this, being paired in a group with Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund it is hard not to think that they would at least fight for second place in the group. The reality was very different, and they were barely able to make a difference with the weakest member of the group, Copenhagen, so now their path in Europe will continue in the Europa League.
Los sevillanos han tenido muchos problemas en este inicio de temporada, pues más allá de su flojo papel en Europa, en la liga española también están siendo muy decepcionantes, estando más cerca de los puestos de descenso que de la cima del torneo.
Su mercado de fichajes también fue muy decepcionante, perdiendo a varios de sus jugadores más importantes, pero pese a esto, al quedar emparejado en un grupo con el Manchester City y el Borussia Dortmund es difícil no pensar que al menos lucharían por la segunda plaza del grupo. La realidad fue muy diferente, y a penas pudieron sacar diferencias con el integrante más débil del grupo, el Copenhague, por lo que ahora su camino en Europa seguirá en la Europa League.
4- Ajax de Amsterdam:

The chances of advancing to the next round were very complicated, as they were in the same group with Napoli and Liverpool, and although at the beginning I thought they could face any of these teams, the truth is that they were beaten. The only relief was Rangers, whom they beat in both matches, finally getting their pass to the Europa League.
Los holandeses son de esos clubes que están acostumbrados a cada año perder a sus jugadores más importantes, pero gracias a una dirección técnica espléndida y a una de las mejores canteras del mundo, logran reparar todos estos problemas rápidamente. Aunque a diferencia de otros años, en el pasado mercado salí Erik ten Hag, el director de orquesta de estos proyectos, por lo que la reestructuración no ha sido nada fácil.
La posibilidades de pasar a la siguiente ronda eran muy complicadas, pues quedaron en un mismo grupo junto al Napoli y el Liverpool, y aunque en un inicio pensé que podrían hacerle frente a cualquiera de estos equipos, la verdad es que salieron vapuleados. El único alivio fue el Rangers, a quienes vencieron en los dos duelos, consiguiendo finalmente su pase para la Europa League.
3- Juventus:

Massimiliano Allegri is in charge of this new project, and despite signing interesting players in the summer, Di Maria has had many physical problems, Paul Pogba has not even made his debut, and other important players have suffered a plague of injuries. In Serie A they have also had a disappointing start, so perhaps this elimination from the most important tournament is something positive, and will allow them to put together a competitive team without so much pressure.
La Vecchia Signora ha sufrido un bajón importante desde la salida de Cristiano Ronaldo ya hace dos temporadas, pues erróneamente los italianos centraron su proyecto en torno al portugués con la esperanza de levantar la orejona, pero ha sucedido completamente lo contrario, pues este año consiguieron de milagro la tercera posición en su grupo, cosa los enviará también a la Europa League.
Massimiliano Allegri está al frente de este nuevo proyecto, y pese a fichar jugadores interesantes en verano, Di María ha tenido muchos problemas físicos, Paul Pogba ni siquiera ha debutado, y otros jugadores importantes ha sufrido una plaga de lesiones. En la Serie A también han tenido un inicio decepcionante, por lo que tal vez está eliminación del torneo más importante sea algo positivo, y les permita armar un equipo competitivo sin tanta presión.
2- Atlético de Madrid:
What the colchoneros showed in the Champions League was really disappointing, because unlike the other teams in this list, they were the only ones that did not even manage to qualify for the Europa League, being eliminated in Europe in November. On paper, they were the strongest team in the group, with all due respect to Porto, Brugge or Bayer Leverkusen, but the reality was totally different.
They only managed 1 victory in the 6 matches, but the most worrying thing was the image shown by Cholo Simeone's team, unable to respond in any of the matches, in addition to losing the defensive solidity, which for so many years was the flag of this project, being the team that conceded the most goals in their group (9 goals).
Lo mostrado por los colchoneros en la Champions League realmente fue muy desilusionante, porque a diferencia de los otros equipos en esta lista, fueron los únicos que ni siquiera lograron clasificarse a la Europa League, quedando eliminados en Europa en noviembre. Sobre el papel, eran el equipo más fuerte del grupo, con los respetos correspondientes al Porto, Brujas o Bayer Leverkusen, pero la realidad fue totalmente diferente.
Solo lograron 1 victoria en los 6 partidos, pero lo más preocupante fue la imagen mostrada por el equipo del Cholo Simeone, incapaz de responder en ninguno de los partidos, además de que perdieron la solidez defensiva, que tantos años fue la bandera de este proyecto, siendo el equipo que más goles encajo de su grupo (9 goles).
1- Barcelona:

Luck was not on Barcelona's side from the start, they were assigned to the group of death along with Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, and although there was a feeling of revenge at the beginning, the Germans did not even manage to get through as group winners. Refereeing controversies were also an important factor against Inter, but the Spaniards sealed their elimination by failing to beat them at the Camp Nou, and will now have to fight another year for the Europa League, a tournament in which they failed last year.
Todos sabíamos que la era post Messi sería muy problemática para el Barcelona, pues ya también vivimos algo parecido en el Real Madrid con la salida de Cristiano Ronaldo, pero lo bajo que han caído los culés era realmente impensable. Ya la temporada pasada se sufrió una desilución europea al quedar eliminado en un grupo complicado, por lo que para esta nueva temporada se hizo una inversión muy importante y se trajeron a jugadores de primer nivel, cosa que hizo aún más dolorosa está eliminación.
La suerte no estuvo de parte del Barcelona desde el inicio, fue asignado al grupo de la muerte junto al Bayern Munich y el Inter de Milán, y aunque hubo una sensación de venganza en un inicio, los alemanes ni se despeinaron para pasar como primeros de grupo. Las polémicas arbitrales también fueron un factor importante contra el Inter, pero los españoles sellaron su eliminación al no poder vencerlos en el Camp Nou, y ahora tendrán que luchar un año más por la Europa League, torneo donde ya fallaron el año pasado.
