Spanish star Rafael Nadal crushed his Italian rival, Fabio Fonini (6-3, 6-4, 6-2), and qualified for the quarter-finals in the men's singles competitions in the Australian Open tennis, the first of the Grand Slam championships of the current season, today, Monday.
In a confrontation with the player, who had pulled him out of the American Open in 2015, Nadal withstood the strong blows, which are characteristic of the Italian, and then succeeded in resolving the match, which was held in a hot atmosphere at Rod Laver Stadium.
The match lasted two hours and 16 minutes, during which Nadal was subjected to a strong test, when he was forced to reverse his delay (4-2) in the second set, to control the play, and then decided the result after beating from the beginning, in the third set.
Nadal will meet in the next round, with the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, or with another Italian, Matteo Bertini.
