Last Home Basketball Game

Today I'm going to share my son's last home basketball game which was this past Monday. It was a playoff game and that means to keep playing you have to win, losing team is done for the year. Being a senior this year it truly is the last time he will play a game on his home court. I wasn't feeling well that day but that didn't stop me from attending it. I simply wasn't going to miss this game.

I didn't take any photos during the game I just wanted to kick back and try to get comfortable. Between the local newspaper and the school's Facebook page there were plenty to choose from for some photo memories. So I'll share with you today some of those photos.

Normally I'll sit next to a group of parents but I'm sick so I tried to isolate myself from others. I was at the edge of the bleachers near a wall, it was nice having the wall for some back support. I'll admit it was rough at the beginning but once the game started my sickness disappeared for awhile.

After warm-ups the team lined up for the playing of the National Anthem. Soon after that both team's starters were announced. It's a time when each player does their own individual skit. My son bows his head and they act like they are crowning him. After the skit they shake hands with the starters from the other team and do the same with the referees.

The home team started off quick leading 9-0 right out the gate. The other team shot themselves back into it chipping away at the lead to make it 9-6. The last minute of the first quarter my son scored 5 points in a 8-0 run to end the quarter. We left a lot of points on the court the first two quarters. The last photo above is the last shot that he took of the quarter, he made it. A teammate of his buried a three at the buzzer 30 seconds later. It was 20-9 after one.

The second quarter we had a bit of a lapse on the defense side. The other team actually outscored us in points 16 to 15. My son shot 3 of 6 for the first half and had 8 points at the break. He was seeing a lot of double teams when he touched the ball. At Halftime the home team was up 35-25.

The second half of the game the team came ready to play. They went on a 29-0 run that lasted all the 3rd quarter and into some of the fourth quarter. The other team only scored 3 points in the second half. My son had 18 points in the second half, giving him a game high of 26 points. He went a perfect 7 of 7 hitting 4 three pointers. They won by a score of 72-28.

HUDL Video

Above is video clip of my son's six made three pointers, courtesy of hudl.com. I had to upload to You Tube for the video to show in post. Take a look if you choose 😊 After he made his 5th three pointer the home student section started cheering, "He's a bucket." Everybody in the stands got a kick out of that and a few nodded in approval. It's too bad that's not in the video that would have been cool. Next game is Friday night as they play a team that they will be an underdog in.

Well my son hasn't slumped at all with his points per game average all season. He currently has the 5th best average in the state playing in division 4A. This division contains the schools with the most enrollments. It's really cool to see my kid among the top of so many players.

He had another communication with another college coach tracking his play. Though his season could end on a single loss he has much more basketball related things to do. He's got two college visits to make and has an all-star game to play in. Once the season ends I'm sure he will be recognized with a few different awards.

Asides from his points per game average he has some really good shooting splits. Overall he shooting 53.6% from the field, 43% from beyond the arc, and 84.8% from the free throw line. Just so proud of this kid. I hope they get the win tomorrow so he and his team can enjoy some more hoops. If they win there will only be 16 teams remaining. A win after that their in the State Championship tourney. It would be wild going out with a state championship. One game at a time though, the lucky number is 5 more wins!!

Well that's all I have for you this time. Take care, stay safe, and enjoy the days ahead. Until next time!
