Ross Barkley

Ross Barkley

What happened to the boy wonder who prided the field in his fairly early days in Everton?

Wonderkid: the next 'Gascoigne' to Chelsea flop

And then to Luton town. Yet to be decided whether his career is completely over or not.

Wasted talents

What happened with Ross Barkley at Chelsea? Did he become too full of himself or did he simply let his injury (hamstring) he arrived with overtake him?
Many believe he simply just didn't have the football brain and lacked decision making, already back in his Everton time, some fans stated:

Never had the decision making to fulfil his perceived potential

This does seem to hold some truth to it since he was out of contract and is now playing at newly promoted PL side, Luton Town.

Surely, some better team would have picked him up, if they thought he actually did have the talents he showed in his earlier days.

Personal opinion

My personal opinion of Ross was at first: This guy is going to be a star!

All his time at Everton, I did not like when my team was about to play against Everton because they had him. He could make things happen on his own.
What I did not notice, but have noticed later, is his inability to make things happen for others.

His mental ability however was Conference level, maybe League 2 if I'm being kind. He was always half a yard behind the play, he'd miss obvious passes because he'd forget the lines that players around him were meant to run, he'd receive the ball but wouldn't have thought ahead so would get dispossessed very often

This quote seems to sum it up, since Luton Town were the ones to get his signature.

Cheer on

I always cheer for footballers to become the best version of themselves, and the case with Ross Barkley is no different.
Go on, Ross! Practice makes perfect - or at least better.
