TheTerminal celebrates Three Years!

Have you ever heard of three women giving birth to one baby? Well, it happened, right here on the blockchain! Three years ago today, on 07-Dec-2018, TheTerminal project was founded!

In the beginning, TheTerminal was the brainchild of Ren of @xcountytravelers. She and her husband, Scott, had been welcoming people to the blockchain via their @heyhaveyamet project, leaving greetings and encouraging comments on #introduceyourself posts since October 2018. She realized the need for a place where newbies could ask their questions in an interactive format.

So, Ren began setting up a server on Discord and ran into some problems. She reached out to @thekittygirl and asked for assistance. Kitty gladly shared her knowledge and stepped-in to do the setup work, freeing Ren to regroup and resume following her outlined plans for the project. Ren invited @brittandjosie to be the other third of the team, and from there things really began to blossom with Britt's endless creativity brought into the mix.

The three women worked beautifully together, side-by-side and on a very close level, to bring all the plans to fruition. The Discord was created on 07-Dec-2018. Two days later after much setup and testing, invitations were sent out to those interested in watching the project launch. Moderators were screened and chosen, links gathered to helpful posts that explained blockchain-related concepts, and suggestions were offered by those who helped beta-test the server. After a couple more days, TheTerminal 'officially' opened for business!

Over the past three years, we have remained faithful to our goal:

to provide a dedicated Discord server where anyone can ask questions, learn the etiquette and workings of the blockchain, then connect with communities where they can thrive and grow.

Our beloved blockchain is complex and vibrant with nonstop development, so anyone can have questions, not just newbies. Many veterans of the blockchain have come to us for a refresher in how a particular aspect of the chain works, or to learn of new dApps and features. If we do not have the answer to a particular question, we make a concerted effort to find the answers, or direct the querent to a source for those answers. No one is ridiculed in our server for asking a sincere question.

Besides answering questions, we have also sponsored many contests and challenges, conducted several intensive month-long educational sessions (our RedfishRally), collected links to helpful posts, delegated Hive Power (HP) so that those with little of their own have enough Resource Credits (RC) to grow their accounts, counseled members on being responsible citizens of the blockchain, and compiled several lists of #tags, /communities /Discords to help our Terminalers. We have sincerely done everything we could to ensure that everyone who comes through our doors has a chance to succeed on Hive.

The success of @theterminal, itself, is a product of countless hours of volunteer work by our fabulous and dedicated Staff, past and present, all of whom could never be fairly repaid for what they have done. It is also a 24/7 endeavor, operating continuously. The Staff provides assistance as a remembrance of the help each received when they came on-board the blockchain, and attempting to make the onboarding process easier for those coming behind them.

Besides the Staff, @theterminal and @heyhaveyamet also owes a debt of gratitude to all who have assisted with delegations, currently or in the past! A list of our current delegators appears below in alphabetical order. Thank you!

We also wish to thank those who have programmed special bots that are used in our Discord server. Besides the usual array of public Discord bots, we are grateful to:

For the sake of historical accuracy and transparency, our project was founded
on our 'legacy chain' as SteemTerminal. The project was rebranded to TheTerminal
with the launch of the Hive blockchain.

AN OVERVIEW OF OUR ACTIVE PROJECTS:

Whether one has been on the blockchain for three days or three years, there are always questions! @theterminal, founded in December 2018, is a project that answers questions people have about the workings and etiquette of participating on the Hive blockchain. We answer questions about use of the Discord app, as well. A few users of Hive's 'legacy blockchain' have also sought assistance. Everyone is welcome.

Those who delegate to @theterminal will be awarded a "Terminal Supporter" badge on their blockchain profile, the "Patron" role in our Discord server, and our humble gratitude.

The sister-project to TheTerminal is @heyhaveyamet (HHYM), founded in October 2018 and still going strong. The goal of HHYM is to look through the #introduceyourself posts of those new to the blockchain and welcome the new arrivals and gather links to their introductory posts in a daily curation post. New accounts are carefully checked for effort, plagiarism, and account-farming before being featured.

When new users arrive on the Hive blockchain, they have no initial HivePower (HP) unless some is delegated to them. Users with no HP are allotted so few Resource Credits (RC) that only a few posts or comments will have them running out of RC quickly. This is counterproductive to growing an account and establishing a presence on the blockchain. @rc-assist exists to help fill that void by delegating a small amount of HivePower to those new Hiveans. The amount will vary slightly, depending on circumstances, but will range between 20 and 100 HP. Once the delegatee has grown their account enough to be self-sufficient, the delegation will be withdrawn to support other new accounts.

Since delegated Hive Power cannot be re-delegated, we do not recommend delegating to @rc-assist. We have a couple of delegations already to provide us with all the Resource Credits we need for now. PowerUps on our behalf, or liquid funds that we can PowerUp are appreciated, though, if anyone wishes to help us help others! Thanks to @pfunk for being the first to PowerUp directly to us, earlier this week!
