RE: Week 09 - Popularity of Current Social Media

I feel like an individual will completely lose their tolerance for traditional social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, when the actions done by the app to silence their speech go too far and don't allow the individual to say anything on the app, unless there is a valid reason for the silencing of their speech. If someone is repeatedly blocked from voicing their opinion on social media, that could have a chilling effect on that individual and potentially a larger group of people. Basically, people will begin supressing their speech out of fear of getting punished or blocked by the social media companies. Once enough people begin losing their tolerance for social media, then decentralized media like Hive will most likely become more prevalent. However, I don't think very many people have reached their breaking point with social media yet. The benefits still outweigh the cons for many, including myself.
