Esta imagen es la entrada a la ciudad de Bauta por la carretera central que recorre a Cuba desde un extremo a otro. Y es aparentemente un día normal, pero si eres observador verás que a la izquierda parece terminar la tierra y comenzar el mar. Hace unos días estuve por allí y el paisaje realmente cambio mucho..Por qué cambio te preguntaras??
Por qué?? Pues este paisaje que parece de otro planeta donde hay árboles que crecen sobre el agua, no es más que el resultado de la última tormenta que nos afectó. Yo hace apenas 4 años que vivo en esta ciudad y mi casa está relativamente cerca de este lugar, y me quedé estupefacto al ver como el paisaje cambio después de un día de fuertes lluvias sobre la región occidental de nuestro país.
Llegué al lugar para buscar unos premios que ganaron algunos de nuestros pequeños estudiantes de la Casa de la Cultura. Nuestro Metodologo Municipal de Artes Plasticas vive exactamente frente al lugar de la inundación y era el mi contacto para recoger los premios. Y a pesar de que cuando iba tuve que desviarme por que vi que la calle estaba inundada al final, nunca imaginé las increíbles proporciones de lo sucedido.
Estando allí recorde que mi querida artista @mipiano me había retado esa misma tarde a escribir un post sobre las tres calles más importantes de mi ciudad. Reconociendo entonces que estaba en el lugar donde comienza la ciudad con la entrada de la carretera central, me dispuse a tomar fotos de la zona. Así que fue el lente de mi celular el que descubrió esta increíble inundación tan fotogénica. Allí estaban dos esculturas en piedra que quedaron aisladas sobre pequeños islotes de tierra.
Y así caminando y escogiendo las mejores composiciones para tomar fotos, fuí descubriendo que toda el área estaba inundada. Mi celular me fue llevando hasta la esquina donde comienza la primera calle transversal y entonces pude divisar el motivo por el que tuve que desviarme cuando venía por la calle paralela a la central. El agua se extendía por todo el costado de la clínica estomatologíca hasta los edificios de Nuevo Vedado.
En esta última foto que les muestro pueden ver como un campo de football se convirtió en una piscina gigante en solo un día. Pocos días antes elegí ese lugar para filmar un vídeo de presentación para un proyecto de artes visuales con niños. Y algo que me gustó fue ver varios equipos de niños y jóvenes jugando football en ese campo deportivo. Ahora mágicamente luce como una gran piscina. No se como se llegó a acumular tanta agua. Recuerdo que el día antes senti el fuerte golpeteo de la lluvia de granizo sobre el techo de mi casa y en la televisión mostraron fotos del granizo acumulado en varios lugares del occidente del país. Tal vez es una piscina de granizo derretido! - pense. Y me quede disfrutando la exótica belleza del paisaje.

I have lived in this city for only 4 years and my house is relatively close to this place, and I was astonished to see how the landscape changed after a day of heavy rains over the western region of our country.
I arrived at the site to pick up some prizes won by some of our little students from the Casa de la Cultura. Our Municipal Plastic Arts Methodologist lives right across the street from the flooding and he was my contact to pick up the prizes. And even though I had to detour on my way there because I saw that the street was flooded at the end, I never imagined the incredible proportions of what happened.
While there I remembered that my dear artist @mipiano had challenged me that afternoon to write a post about the three most important streets of my city. Recognizing then that I was in the place where the city begins with the entrance of the central highway, I set out to take pictures of the area. So it was the lens of my cell phone that discovered this incredible flood so photogenic. There were two stone sculptures that were isolated on small islands of land.
And so walking and choosing the best compositions to take pictures, I was discovering that the whole area was flooded. My cell phone took me to the corner where the first cross street begins and then I could see the reason why I had to turn off when I was coming down the street parallel to the central one. The water was extending all along the side of the stomatology clinic up to the buildings of Nuevo Vedado.
In this last photo I show you can see how a football field turned into a giant swimming pool in just one day. A few days before I chose that place to shoot a video presentation for a visual arts project with children. And something I liked was to see several teams of children and young people playing football on that sports field. Now it magically looks like a big swimming pool. I don't know how so much water accumulated. I remember that the day before I felt the loud pounding of the hail rain on the roof of my house and on TV they showed pictures of the hail accumulated in several places in the western part of the country. Maybe it is a pool of melted hail! - I thought. And I stayed enjoying the exotic beauty of the landscape.
