¡Los sobrinos se quieren como a los hijos! Yo no tengo hijos, pero tengo cuatro sobrinos que quiero con muchas fuerzas. Hoy vengo a comentarles la historia del mayor de mis dos sobrinos varones.
Bautizado por su abuela (mi madre) con el nombre de mi abuelo materno, Pedro fue afortunado de haber sido el primer nieto y el más consentido de la familia. Fue un niño que no tuvo un padre que lo guiara, pero tuvo una madre valiente y amorosa, además, le sobraron los tíos y abuelos que lo acompañaron y llevaron siempre por el buen camino.

Desde muy pequeño decía que quería ser profesional como sus tíos, algo que nos llenaba de orgullo, su cariño es algo que nunca nos ha faltado. Desde la primaria y secundaria comentaba que deseaba estudiar Informática o Telecomunicaciones, lo que estaba muy ligado a la pasión que sentía por las nuevas tecnologías en aquel momento.
Durante los estudios preuniversitarios, no fueron pocos los sucesos que atentaron contra el rendimiento académico de Pedro, por una parte los cortes docentes por la situación de la Covid 19 y por la otra la muerte inesperada de su abuela, fueron aspectos muy difíciles.

No había pasado mucho tempo cuando mi pareja y yo nos dimos cuenta que algo estaba pasando, se acercaba la recta final del preuniversitario y el niño no tenía metas profesionales claras, lo que trajo como resultado que cada visita de fin de semana se convirtieran en talleres de orientación profesional en familia, fue así que surgió en Pedro cierta atracción por el estudio de la carrera de Medicina, fue algo que nos llamó la atención pues en la familia no hay médicos.
Como mucho de los estudiantes de duodécimo grado, Pedro comenzó a prepararse en las materias de Matemáticas, Español e Historia, fue una preocupación familiar, pues esto conllevaría bastante esfuerzo del niño, un poco más de estudio y dedicación. Llegado el momento, según lo planificado, se presentó a los exámenes de ingreso a la Educación Superior con el objetivo de alcanzar su principal sueño: ser médico.

Si bien es cierto que hoy en día una carrera universitaria en Cuba la puede estudiar cualquiera, solo basta con tener la intención y el deseo, obtener la carrera de tus sueños puede ser un desafío, pues implica alcanzar resultados en los exámenes de ingreso que te brinden una posición adecuada, en correspondencia con tus intereses profesionales.
Por otra parte atenta contra esto la existencia de un contexto social desfavorable, donde estudiar una carrera universitaria no tiene mucho atractivo económico, aspecto que ha traído como resultado el abandono de los estudios universitarios de no pocos jóvenes.

Después de varios días de espera de los resultados de los exámenes, un proceso muy tenso para todos, tuvimos la sorpresa de que Pedro obtuvo muy buenos resultados, algo que nos alegró mucho a todos, pues existían posibilidades de obtener la carrera, no obstante, siempre fue una interrogante.
Hoy en la tarde, como parte de la revisión diría del sitio http://tunota.upr.edu.cu/ de la Universidad de Pinar del Río, lugar donde publican los resultados del otorgamiento, obtuvimos una sorpresa muy linda, un sueño hecho realidad, Pedro obtuvo la carrera de Medicina como continuidad de estudios ¡Valió la pena el esfuerzo! ¡Ya listo para iniciar sus primeros pasos por la medicina!

Lo primero que hicimos fue llamarlo y darle la buena noticia, a lo que el niño respondió preguntando: ¿Tío, están orgullosos de mí?
