Roasting coffee on the big 30kg Machine

Of course you want to see me roasting coffee on this big green coffee roasting machine, first off it is best watched with the sound on HIGH - this is a noisy bit of kit. Second roast, and it all goes smoothly - if I look puzzled at points the drum alignment was a little out so the small Ethiopian Yirgacheffe beans I was roasting some managed to escape from the drum. Long story short - the drum can be moved back and forth - the gap between the drum and front wall of the roaster is critical. To narrow and you risk the drum rubbing against the front wall and burning out the drum motor - but too far away and you can let beans fall out. It was only a tiny bit out - but when you have small beans they will escape! simple adjustment so there will be no issues the next roast.

The learning curve is getting the gas pressure adjustment perfect - so the coffee roasts in the time I want it to - raising the bar pressure from 3.5 to 6 gave me a higher turn around, and then set at 4 for the roast completed the beans in my perfect time. Overall all going well, and getting the odd few leaks of smoke sorted - most are now because the ducting is not above roofline but I added another meter and a half today outside so that will be fixed for the next one.
