This is a beautiful old antique primitive woodbox. Exact age and origin unknown but definitely from the early 1800s. Gorgeous color! Came from a Lancaster County Pennsylvania farm estate..
These early woodboxes were set by the fireplace in the summer kitchen and used to store logs and kindling for the fire. They were an essential part of surviving. They were used everyday! Not many of these survived.
Note the quality craftsmanship with dovetails and beautiful turned legs.
A great piece of American history.
