Tomorrow, 27th November, marks the 67th anniversary of the sinking of the MV Glenmoor, 27th November 1940
Glenmoor a cargo ship, we built in 1928, by W. Doxford & Sons, Sunderland, 4393 grt. Its top speed being 10 knots. Owned by W. Runciman & Co., Newcastle-on-Tyne.
On the evening of 27th November 1940, Glenmoor was part of Convoy OB 248, which left port, Liverpool, 23rd November, with the convoy being diapered on the 26th. The convoy, was made up of 45 ships, of 1 which 1 didn't sail and 8 escorts. Glenmoor had a cargo of coal on board
As a struggling ship, the Glenmoor, was torpedoed and sunk by U-103, 167 miles north of Sylne Head, Ireland. 31 men including the Captain, were lost. 2 survivors were picked up. Three men from Swansea were to lose their lives, Evan S. Evans, Ordinary Seaman, John G. K. Jenkins, Ordinary Seaman, and Percy Thomas, Steward. All the 31 men are commemorated at the Tower Hill Memorial, London
