The Unsinkable Molly Brown

The RMS Titanic set off on the first voyage, this date, 1912. The tragic end, on April 15, 1912, is familiar to all. From a total of 2240 crew members and passengers, the loss of life totaled 1500.

On board, and a survivor, was Margaret Brown, a socialite and philanthropist. (with a net worth at time of death in 1932 of $3,479,626) She has been recognized for her efforts as they abondoned ship. It is said she aided with life boat loading and launching until forced by others to board a lifeboat. Still, Margaret Brown urged her lifeboat crew to return for survivors. Her heroism earned her the nickname of the Unsinkable Mrs. Brown.

Known to most as the Unsinkable Molly Brown as the result of the 1960 Broadway play!
