The Brant Coal Mine was opened in 1923 by Delphia Brant and George Beckman where to two men mined for coal. This coal was then sold to heat houses in the area.
The mine, which is no longer in use, is accessible via a short trail at Deep Creek Lake State Park in Maryland.
The mine tunnel was low and narrow and it was hard work. Within a few years both men died and the mine fell into disrepair and eventually caved in. It has since been reconstructed to illustrate how it was in the 1920's.
All photos taken by myself in July of this year.
