It is believed to be a Christian cross planted by the Portuguese and Spanish explorers headed by Ferdinand Magellan on April 14, 1521, same day also that has marked the Christianity in the land where the first Christian Filipinos, Rajah Humabon and Queen Juana and about 400 followers into the Catholic faith were baptised. The said cross was planted to signify this important event about the propagation of the Roman Catholic faith in Cebu here in Central Philippines. The cross is now housed in a roofed kiosk in Magallanes Street to protect it further not only from rain or the hot tropical sun, but also from fanatics who chipped away pieces believing it has miraculous powers.
