MULAO RIVER: More unforgettable the second time around

Hello! Hi! Mabuhay! It's Hanya, the BEE that's buzzing on Hive 🐝

A new day to be celebrated! A new memory to be treasured! Yeeeeeey 🎉

By the way, Have you gone to travel to a place where you had full of amazing and fantastic memories at first but turned out the exact opposite the second time around? Because I have! Please stay tuned as I share my story.

One of my happy pills is an adventure. Being a risk-taker and having an adventurous spirit, we decided to go to the mountainous place where an enchanted river laid down its beauty and scenic view.

Mulao River

Mulao River is located in the heart of the mountainous barangay of Compostela, Cebu. According to folks that live there, the river is magical with so many stories to tell. It will take approximately a hundred steps to cross to the other side (Yes! That's how wide it is!) And it is believed to be connected to Cebu City's river and Compostela's shoreline. I'll be showing in this blog the fantastic view, so please keep reading ✨

So, this is what happened.
It was a bright day and the weather was fine. We decided to set off early via motorbike with my sister and my brother-in-law. We arrived early at the drop-off point of the place. The place was quiet and peaceful. Only the hustling wind, the flowing water, and the singing birds were heard. Indeed, it was a great escape from stressful work.

Where were we again? Oh! Back to the story!
After we reached the drop-off point, we asked someone who could accompany us, and luckily, there was someone who happened to be a relative of my brother-in-law's friend. So, let the journey begin!

As we went on in our trekking, I jokingly asked our friend how far and how long will have to go and he also replied jokingly, "ma'am, we are still on the fourth mountain and our destination is on the 10th". And was like, "Whaaaaaaaat? Aren't we there yet? We've walked enough!" Lol.

Infinite years laaaaaaater (insert, clapping effect) Finally, we have reached our destination! Hurray! Thousands of "WOOOOOOW" and hundreds of "WHOOOOAH" - just came out from my lips.

Indeed, this place is magical because of its jaw-dropping view. Look at the snaps, What do you think?

After we took some photos, we decided to take a quick dive into the cool blue water. And guess what? I had to climb to the big rock and jump off into the water. It was one of the best days of my life.

And of course, I will never leave the place without doing my TRAVEL SIGNATURE POSE. Tsaaaadaaa! (You'll see more of these in my future blogs!)

Now, where did I get the thought that traveling to the same place is more unforgettable the second time around? Here it is, the PLOT TWIST.

And yes, we went there for the second time. This time, my sister and my brother-in-law were engaged so we planned to have our final prenup session in that river. We brought along with us our friends for make-up and to assist us. And this time, not only did we bring stuff for cooking our food, but also big bags full of gowns and suits, gear, and make-up kits. In short, we were heavily loaded with things for the photo shoot.

After we reached the drop-off point, we immediately called our friend that accompanied us the first time we went there.
Each one of us carried the stuff going to the center rock (as we called it, our destination).

As we started our journey, we noticed that the weather was inclement, however, we did not mind at all. We all just said, "Oh, this will go away". Of course, our plan should not be canceled. No way, I have planned my angles and prepared my gears this time and I couldn't wait to do my job. With a positive mind, we continued on and on until we reached the big rock.

It was past 11. And everybody was hungry. So we decided to cook our food before we start our photoshoot. The boys in the group gathered the firewood and we, the girls, prepared the pot and the ingredients for cooking. We were born ready, AJA!

A few minutes later, the food was served and ready to eat. Without hesitations, we grabbed the food and pigged out.

Of course, there's always the photo opportunity for keeps.

Then suddenly, the rain began to pour. The clouds began to darken even more. We noticed something. The river! The color of the water is different. Its flow got stronger. The breeze got colder. We felt something bad was going to happen. So, our friend advised us to just cancel the plans and immediately go back to the drop-off point. Back in my mind, "Not this time please, this is my moment!" But of course, we needed to go home.

Goosebumps!

Our steps were doubled to get to the drop-off point as fast as we could. The river began to rise. The water level was below our knees.

I prayed that God protects us from harm. My mind was wandering around as I grasped my breath while running-walking fast. I imagined what will happen if the big flow of water would drown us. I started to panic. Just as we reached the last mountain BEFORE THE DROP-OFF POINT, the water level began to rise quickly. We shouted with joy because we were safe. Even though we did not make it to the drop-off point but we were safe as were on the top of the mountain. The folks told us that the water current is impossible to cross as its level reached up to shoulder. That deep!

Gosh! That was close. Still, our travel did not end that badly. While waiting for the water to subside, the folks offered us something to calm down the adrenaline that was rushing through our veins. They were so friendly. They even offered us some food.

While sitting in the swing under the mango tree, watching the angry river that's flooding, I came to realize that the canceled plan had a good reason, and that was to keep us from harm and to meet the people who warmly offered us help. Also, when going on a trek or a hike, we should check the weather, ALWAYS.
