The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 27, Post #8

Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Genesis 27:33-35

The cover photo for this lesson could go well for last week or this week. We see Y'acov (Jacob) disguised as Esau, being blessed before God and Esau coming with a fresh kill for his father's dinner.

In reality, Esau would have to be in the kitchen or at the fire cooking because the story tells us how he was walking in with dinner for his father, while at the same time Jacob had just left, full of blessing.

When Isaac heard Esau's voice, he started to tremble, then informed Esau that someone else was just there and they have the blessing. Esau argues but Isaac confirmed that the one and only blessing of God had already been given.

Then Isaac trembled very violent- ly and said, "Who was it then that hunted game and brought it to me, and I ate it all before you came, and I have blessed him? Yes, and he shall be blessed." As soon as Esau heard the words of his father, he cried out with an exceedingly great and bitter cry and said to his father, "Bless me, even me also, O my father!" But he said, "Your brother came deceitfully, and he has taken away your blessing."
