The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 23, Post #4

Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Genesis 23:14-16

The very public announcement of Sarah's death and the purchase of the field, which included the cave she was buried in, is complete now. Abraham had asked for a place to bury his wife in the presence of all in the land, Ephron responded and stated the value of the land, and Abraham paid the prices he asked.

The land cost Abraham USD $122.00 in current shekels. The price was likely different in ancient times as the shekel was valued locally and land was very cheap back then.

The burial site is located in modern day Hebron and is well known. Every book in the Tanakh gives us another set of verifiable indications that the text is historically accurate. We should assume that everything else is accurate as well. The Creator has given us no reason to believe he would lie.

The story continues next week as Sarah is buried...
