Boy, 15, is seized from his parents and they face JAIL after they let him smoke pot to stop his constant seizures

A 15-year-old Georgia boy who was suffering from several seizures a day was taken from his parents after they gave him cannabis.

Suzeanna and Matthew Brill of Macon, Georgia, began giving their son David weed in February and noted that his seizures stopped for 71 days.

'I smoke it first,' said stepfather Matthew to WMAZ. 'I know where it comes from, I know my people. Made sure the bag was good, packed the bowl in my bowl, which I know ain't been anywhere else, and I set it on the table and told him that it was his decision. I did not tell him he had to or not.'

Upfront with doctors about their new practice, the Brills shared that they were giving David cannabis with his therapist.

Hours later on April 19, deputies from the Twiggs County sheriff's office and Division of Family and Children Services were at their home and drug tested all three in the family - both Matthew and David tested positive while Suzeanna tested negative. They were told to stop immediately.

These parents spent 6 days in jail and had their son taken from them for merely trying to do the right thing for their son. They were open and honest to doctors about their son's amazing results after smoking marijuana and wanted to share the news with doctors they though had their son's best interest at heart but they forgot that the medical industry and especially the mental health part is just an extension of the justice system when police showed up at their door hours later.

Cops bust kids smoking marijuana all the time but they don't take the kids away from their parents. So why in this case did they take this boy away? Maybe because it's another example of the medical use for marijuana and big pharma doesn't want people using a plant they can grow themselves to cure disease or could it be that this family looks like a lower income family that doesn't have the money to fight back against CPS and the courts. Either way, I think the only thing these parents did wrong was to tell people that they allowed their son to smoke marijuana. If they would of kept quiet about it and told their son if he get's busted with the marijuana you tell the cops that you got it from another kid. If they did that I think we wouldn't be discussing this news story right now and their son would probably still be with them.

If this was a upper-middle class family we'd probably see a different story here. There would be lawyers involved, lawsuits flying around and these parents probably wouldn't of spent time in jail, maybe they have a criminal history, but still I think a good lawyer could of got them out of it. They would for sure have their son as they battle it out with the court system.

They've setup a GoFundMe page that has over $27,000 raised currently and I'm sure a lot of that will go to medical bills but I hope they use some to hire a good lawyer to get their son back.

The family has launched a GoFundMe to raise money for a lawyer. They have managed to raise just over $19,000 of their $30,000 goal.

There's some serious science behind marijuana reducing seizures so it's not like these parents were just giving their son marijuana to get high because its fun. They were doing this with hopes that it might have a positive medical benefit and it did almost immediately.

Marijuana Treatment Reduces Severe Epileptic Seizures

Medical researchers have confirmed what some desperate parents have been claiming for years—that a nonpsychoactive component of marijuana known as cannabidiol (CBD) can reduce epileptic seizures in some children.

Published in The New England Journal of Medicine, the findings stem from a double-blind, placebo-controlled study—the most scientifically rigorous type of investigation possible. “This study clearly establishes cannabidiol as an effective anti-seizure drug for this disorder and this age group," says principal investigator Orrin Devinsky, director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at New York University Langone Medical Center. “It certainly deserves to be studied in other types of epilepsy.”
