The fact is that the amount of time the adult spend during their life time has increased over time, and because of the innovation like delivering groceries, we expect many older adults will sit for long time.
First, what happen while we are sitting?
When we are sitting for a long time without any action, the weight-bearing muscles of the legs remain dormant, and these muscles are unable to use the sugar and fats that float around in our body and this will lead to weight gain and disease such as diabetes.
In addition to that, the reduced blood flow will leads to hostile conditions which causes injury to blood vessel walls. And over the life time this injury will causes heart diseases.
Furthermore, when your leg muscles remain shut off for long time, blood collects in your viens and that can leads to blood clots.
Sitting patterns are discribe how much time people sit throughout the day.
in this picture, we see that people who are sitting for long time and rarely getting up, they have prolonged sitting pattern.And those who are regularly getting up after sitting for short periods, they are tend to have interrupted sitting patterns
According to observitional studies; people who have prolonged sitting patterns are have less good fats, more bad fats and a higher level of sugar in their blood comparing to those who have interrupted sitting patterns.
