Colloidal silver is a powerful antibacterial and antimicrobial which has been used as a natural medicine for hundreds and probably thousands of years, and the health benefits of which were known long before recent science first began documenting them.
I was first personally introduced to silver as a medicine quite a few years ago, and have sworn by it ever since. I woke up one morning with one of the worst sore throats I had ever had, and was visiting a friend (an older man), and he recommended that I drink a glass of silver water, as he had been making and using his own for decades. I went for it, and within 15 minutes my sore throat was absolutely completely gone! Needless to say I've naturally been a big fan ever since, though I didn't start making my own until I got a really bad cold one day a couple years later, and I've been making my own ever since - for several years now.
As an antibiotic, silver is unique compared to the modern pharmaceutical antibiotics due to its ability to control antibiotic-resistant bugs; as unlike the modern pharmaceuticals, the organisms being killed do not develop resistance or immunity to colloidal silver.

Silver is also effective against both pink eye and ear infections, regardless of the cause, as some ear infections are fungal in nature rather than bacterial, in which cases the prescription antibiotics will be useless but colloidal silver still effective. Medical studies have also documented the properties of silver as an effective anti-inflammatory. As it is with so much of modern science, recent medical studies continue to prove and to document what has already been known for centuries (without technical scientific explanations): that colloidal silver can reduce swelling, speed healing, and boosts cell recovery. How to Make Your Own Silver Water (Colloidal Silver) Affordably in a Few Simple Steps
As people have become more aware of the numerous health benefits of colloidal silver and its popularity has grown, so has its availability (along with increasing pharmaceutical/government attempts to restrict/ban it). The problem for the average person is that pre-made silver water isn't cheap, and the cost of high-end colloidal silver such as Sovereign Silver is not at all feasible, running about $15.00-$20.00/2oz bottle in stores around me. And being that the recommended daily dose for prevention is 1-2oz (though these bottles will say 2-4tsp), this $7.00-$15.00/day would really add up way too quickly! The natural solution for most people who've heard of the benefits of silver but can't or refuse to pay the high price of prepared colloidal silver is to make their own, which is really cheap in comparison over the long run.
There are several different ways of making your silver water; all require the same simple ingredients, basic procedures and some form of silver generator. This is where the main differences in direction online tend to vary. There are silver generators made for this specific purpose which can be purchased online, but this is the most expensive route. The two options most commonly chosen are the use of three 9-volt batteries or a simple AC/DC converter, which is what I do and will be sharing today. However if you choose to use 9-volt batteries, just connect all three, attach one electrical wire fitted with an alligator clip (same as with AC converter) to the negative side and one to the positive side, and then follow the same directions laid out here for the AC converter method... The goal in my understanding is to generate ~ 25-30 volts of electricity (some go as low as 12/13 volts).
- Step 1: Purchase/build/setup your silver generator - you will need a standard AC converter (400mA-1A), appropriately sized electrical alligator clips & sharp knife or electrical tool.
I opted for buying an AC/DC converter as that is the method I was originally shown by the older man mentioned above, and so I wouldn't have to also keep buying new batteries. The battery method would likely be a better choice for those living without electricity or with limited natural power. Any basic AC converter with a 30-volt option should do; I went with a 1 amp as that is what was available where I was at the time - 400 mA to 800 mA is ideal. The higher or lower ampage will increase or decrease your cook time. Feel free to also do your own research before making your first batch, as the method I use is based upon much past research combined with the directions passed on to me as well as my own personal experiences by which I've dialed in my own method.
Once you have picked up an AC converter and alligator clips, just cut off the standard end of the main wire, pull the positive and negative wire apart, and then remove the plastic wire cover at the tips, baring about an inch of the copper wire for each. You only need enough copper exposed to attach each wire to an alligator clip. Once you have securely fastened each of your two newly separated wires to a clip, you now have an operational silver generator!
- Step 2: Purchase Ingredients - You will need purified steam-distilled water and two .999% pure pieces of silver + glass containers.
Use only pure steam distilled water!
This is extremely important, as steam distillation is the only method which purifies the water to the levels of purity required for making safe and effective colloidal silver. The discoloration of skin towards blue/gray/purple called argyria is the only known "side-effect" of silver and is inevitably often used by the MSM and other 'authorities' in their attempts to discredit silver as a safe and effective natural medicine. This otherwise harmless ("medically benign") but typically permanent condition is actually caused by extreme overdoses of colloidal silver one needn't worry about, or ingestion of high amounts of IMPURE colloidal silver (caused by particles in the water bonding to the silver particles), thus the necessity of using only steam-distilled (NOT reverse-osmosis) distilled water.
Former Montana Libertarian candidate for governor Stan Jones is one of the few examples who developed this skin discoloration, which apart from looking a little weird is entirely harmless. However this condition only developed because leading up to and following Y2K, Stan not only used tap water to make his silver water, but also overdosed himself to the extreme, thinking he was protecting himself from a government conspiracy to release a weaponized bacteria/virus of some type. This is the only known side effect of silver, it is not truly harmful to the body and is instead only superficial, it only comes from extreme overdoses, and then usually only when also overdosing with either impure colloidal silver or ionic silver (yes, there's a slight difference) which cannot survive in the human body (making it medically useless) where it instead turns into silver chloride (which builds up in the body rather than passing through). It's probably worth noting that to my understanding one cannot make colloidal silver without creating some few silver ions in the process, but the majority of the silver water will still be silver nano-particles... But even with straight ionic silver, one needs to ingest extremely high concentrations of 100ppm or higher to even be at risk of argyria...
In other words, silver is pretty damn safe with the only known side effect being completely harmless and medically benign; just use only steam-distilled water/pure silver and don't drink over 8oz/day and you have a zero chance of ever falling victim to it in the first place.
Use only .999 pure silver!
You can use any pure silver, just make sure it is 99.99% pure or .999 silver. Ideally you can purchase one foot lengths of 12 or 14 gauge silver wire which can be found online (ideally 14), or just use .999 silver coins like I do. Once purchased, make sure to store your silver in the dark except when in use, as silver reacts to light (particularly sunlight). The same will go for the silver water once it is finished, which is why it is best to use a tinted or stained glass container for both preparation and storage.
Use only glass containers for making and storing silver water; NEVER USE PLASTIC!
Yes, you will need at least one glass container for cooking the silver, and one for storage; never use plastic containers from which the plastic will leach into the silver water compromising its purity. If you haven't gathered by now, purity is of the utmost importance when it comes to colloidal silver :) Also, plastic can create a static charge while cooking, which you do not want. The size of the storage container should be the same or larger than the glass used for cooking the silver water, and preferably the glass will be darkened in some way to shade the silver from the light as it is being made and then again in storage.
The bigger the container you use for cooking the silver, the longer it will take to make each batch of silver water, but the more you will have all at once. I use a smaller 6-cup blue glass vase as it was just laying around the house waiting to be put to use, but many people use 1/2 or 1 gallon glass containers. Pickle jars also work well with the exterior easily spray-painted or otherwise darkened to block the light (such as wrapped in brown paper). Just avoid any bottleneck glasses like wine bottles and stick to wide-mouth glasses as you'll need a wider top, at least 2-3 inches wide in order for it to function.
- Set up your silver-making station & begin cooking your silver water.
You'll need to make a top for your glass which will be used to suspend your silver both in and above the water. Don't use metal! A piece of wood with 2 holes drilled or small cuts made will work nicely - the point of this top is to hold your silver coins or rods in place, partially submerged in the water but with with the ends held just above the water where they will connect with the alligator clips on your new generator. For wire, holes larger than your silver wire but smaller than your clips will be perfect. The same goes for coins - cuts or slits wider than your coins but narrower than your clips are ideal. You want your silver pieces close to each other to increase conductivity but never touching - an inch apart is perfect. In place of a more permanent wooden top, a stiff piece of cardboard will also work as I've done in the past, so long as you don't fill the glass so full the cardboard gets wet and begins to sag (or worse shorts out your generator if either clip gets wet, in which case you will have to wait for everything to dry before resuming).
Then simply fill your glass with your distilled water (a little below the top as the silver will cause the water to rise - you can always add more after you finish setting up) and then simply attach one of each of your 2 alligator clips to your 2 pieces of silver, one is negative and the other positive. If using coins, submerge them as far into the water as you can get with still enough silver protruding above to be able to attach your clips - about 2/3 to 3/4 submerged ideally. If using wire/rods, place them with the bottom of the rods about an inch from the bottom of your glass container. Once setup, just plug your makeshift silver generator into an outlet and the process has begun. Be careful not to let the clips or attached silver touch while it is plugged in lest unnecessary sparking and/or shorting out will ensue. Once setup, it should look something roughly like this:
Cooking times will vary depending upon the amps of your generator and the amount of water you are making per batch. I've found that for my setup, 3 hours does the trick. The more silver you have submerged in the water, the quicker it will go also, so if I was using rods it would surely be quicker. You will be able to see your silver generator working after about 15 minutes or so - just lift up your top and you should see what looks like a cloudy swirl spiraling down from where the silver was submerged; this cloud is all the positively charged silver nano-particles coming off your silver and into the water.
When you can shine a laser through the glass and it is a bright and solid red (for a red laser), you have reached the ideal strength ppm. At first you won't even be able to see the light through the water, then it will be visible but dull, until eventually it will be bright and solid, at about 3 hours for my setup as well as others. Using a 1 gallon glass container and 400 mA generator, but with 16 gauge silver wire instead, it should also take about 3 hours to completion - source.
You will want to unplug the generator, remove the clips and wipe off your silver pieces at least once half way through, and ideally every 15-30 minutes, as a black residue will build up on the silver and eventually enter the water and stain the bottom of your glass.
Use a cloth or paper towel and non-metallic scrubber such as a Scotch bright scouring pad to wipe them off. I typically just use a cloth and then scrape it clean with the Scotch pad at the end... You will also want to swap clips between silver coins or wires half way through so they get somewhat equal time on the positive and negative wires. Then when your time is up, you've got ready-to-use silver water!
You'll be able to see the "cloud" of silver initially, but once shaken up the water should be clear and not yellow. Yellow is a sign of ionic silver rather than colloidal silver. It may have a slight tint to it but should still be pretty clear. It will also taste a bit metallic. To finish, I use a small funnel-type coffee filter to transport the silver water from the cooking glass to the storage glass, to filter out any larger particles which may have come off, which is usually quite minimal (only a few visible particles of silver).
You can also speed up the cooking process in any subsequent batches by "seeding" your distilled water with any previously made silver water - use ratio of 1/4 silver water from previous batch to 3/4 new steam-distilled water and you should be able to cut your cook time in half. The reason for this being that distilled water isn't a great conductor at all on its own until the silver has begun to build up in the water after some time, and this avoids that very slow first hour or so. Basically the longer the silver generator's been running and the more silver particles in the water, the quicker the silver is being made.
Remember to store your new silver water in the dark somewhere, even if you've got amber-colored jars, and never put it into plastic containers; always store it in glass and drink from a glass! Storing it in a cabinet you rarely open would be perfect.
Then just drink 1-2 oz/day for prevention, and 8 oz/day if you are sick. If you feel like you're starting to come down with anything, up your dosage immediately as I've had the best luck instantly killing the bug right at the onset; otherwise it seems to take a bit more time... Also hold the silver water in your mouth and swirl it under your tongue for a good bit before swallowing, as this will get more of the silver nano-particles straight into your blood stream right away. Since starting to use silver, the only times I have gotten sick were always after a period of not regularly taking it... lol.
The only cost to making the silver after the initial investment is the cost of steam-distilled water, which, if you are motivated enough, you could even learn how to make yourself at home; making homemade silver very cheap and affordable in the long run as compared to buying online or at the store. And that was a major reason I decided to make this post - hoping to save health-conscious people money, and show those who otherwise couldn't afford this amazing natural medicine a means of protecting themselves and loved ones.
Of course like always you shouldn't blindly trust me, and feel free to do some research of your own as there are numerous 'right' ways and methods to making colloidal silver water, and I'm just sharing what's worked for me, stressing the most important steps you MUST follow to be successful, hoping it helps you out. Avoiding the major pitfalls like not using tap water is far more important than many of the other specific details; then just play around with cook times according to the size of your cooking glass and the power of your generator, and put the laser method to use as it is cooking, and you'll be a pro in no time!
