AKUH doctor 'sacked' over sending FB friend request to Sharmeen Obaid's sister

Sharmeen is a Pakistani journalist , filmmaker and activist. She is particularly known for her work in films that highlights the inequality with women. She is the recipient of several awards, including two Academy Awards, six Emmy Awards and one Lux Style Award. In 2012, the Government of Pakistan honoured her with the Hilal-i-Imtiaz, the second highest civilian honour of the country, and Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world.She won Oscar award twice in her career.

On the 28 February 2016, A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness won her a second Oscar for Best Documentary, Later in 2017, the documentary also bagged an International Emmy Award for Best Documentary.Short Subject at the 88th Academy Awards. This is the first Oscar win for her film company SOC Films and the second Oscar for Obaid-Chinoy as Director.

KARACHI: A doctor at the Agha Khan University Hospital was allegedly suspended pending an investigation on Friday for sending a friend request to the sister of Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
Sharmeen took to social media and expressed her disapproval of the incident, she said her sister went to AKUH(Aga Khan University Hospital) for treatment and the doctor who treated her sister sent her a friend request.
According to Sharmeen, a doctor at AKUH Emergency who had tended to the filmmaker’s sister had tried to add her on the social networking site.
She had lashed out at the doctor, stating that there were ‘zero boundaries’ in Pakistan
She remarked: "I don't quite understand how doctor tending 2 emergency patients thinks it's ok to take a female patient info & add her on FB! 2/2 unethical."

Abdul Hameed Bhutto, the in-charge of the FIA cyber crime cell Karachi, said sending a Facebook friend request, which could either be accepted or rejected, was not harassment.
This, he added, could not be contested in any court under the Pakistan Electronic Crime Act introduced in 2016.
According to the Supreme Court lawyer Khalil Ahmed Siddiqui, sending an add request on social media does not fall under any definition of harassment. “It’s not an offence,” he added.
