Moonlight Great Sword Guide

My philosophy is that using walkthroughs is the greatest way to spoil all the
fun of a game. You do like to do much of the work yourself, doncha? Still, it
can happen that you're hopelessly stuck in a game. And that's where I come in.
This FAQ has been written that way that you only need to use it when you are
stuck and can toss it aside once you're past that nasty puzzle or boss.

When you use my FAQ to solve the entire game (which you may do of course) you
may see me making referrences to earlier parts of the game, for those who
only want to use my FAQ when they are stuck.

Look up the section you're stuck at up in the index, and press CTRL-F
(If you are on Mac press Apple-F) and type over the code behind it. Since the
game makers were so kind to give up all the room numbers you can easily find
back those numbers in this FAQ as well.

The numbers at the start of each lines are the area numbres
I need to note in WA5 you are in most dungeons NOT teleported out, like in
Wild Arms 2, 3, 4 and Alter Code F. In order to easily tell apart if I were
on my way in the dungeon or on may way out a "B" is noted when I am on my
way out (The "B" for "Back").

Sometimes I bundle a few rooms together. That means that is a multi-area
puzzle, and that more areas are part of the same puzzle.

Let's explain the headers shall we?
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Illsveil Prison (XXXXX, YYYYYY) | IDXZZZ |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Location Type: Dungeon | Savespots: 10, 20 | Sol-Niger: 20 |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Dean 20 | Rebecca 20 | Avril 23 | Greg 25 | Carol 19 | Chuck 21 |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Enemies: Goblin, Kobold |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Go south from where you are to find it |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
First of (of course) the location name. The XXXXX,YYYYY) will be the
coordinates where the location is on the map (if those are available).
The IDX code will be triggered by the search command of your browser.

The location type can be "Town", "Dungeon" or "Railway Station".
The savespots field tells you in which area numbers the savespots can be
found. The Sol-Niger is the room where the Sol-Niger can be found. In most
Dungeons such a Sol-Niger can be found. As long as they are black you'll
always have a random encounter. When you wish to purify it you'll get a boss
type battle and when you win the Sol-Niger will turn white enabeling you to
turn off the random encounters in that area.
The party members in the bottom row are the party members you should have at
your disposal on the moment you take on that section. The numbers behind them
are the levels I had when I took on that section. These levels are by no way
recommendations. It's rather that when you think you are too weak you can
compare your levels to mine. Mostly however it's not the levels that break you
but your preperations. To very much enemies/bosses (only one exception) your
levels mean nothing without a sort of plan. But it gives you an idea on what
good levels could be if you do take value in that.

The last field is an explanation on how to get there.

| Boss
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Mega Bat | BOSZZZ |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Difficulty: Medium | AKA Flapping Wings |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Dean 20 | Rebecca 20 | Avril 23 | Greg 25 | Carol 19 | Chuck 21 |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Mega Bat HP 4000 |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Hex Setup: |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| To beat this fellow just cast a fire spell. |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+

The basic idea is simple. First the name of the boss. The BOS code behind it
can be used to look the boss up in the Boss Index, on the same way as you
look up cities and dungeons. The difficulty is how hard I think a boss is.
The "AKA" is just a nonsense field, with a funny description of a boss.
Below that the party members with the levels I had when I took the boss on.
Below that all targets with their HP. Other statistics can be looked up when
you use the look command, so I won't bother about that.
The Hex Setup will be the setup in which the HEXES are set up.
That Setup is by most boss battles diffrent from the normal setup you have at
random encounters.

When I wrote this FAQ I only used Dean, Rebecca and Avril unless I state
otherwise. It does not really matter which party you use. I used Avril as my
main healer and Carol as a secundary healer when Avril was not available (or
out of MP). It does pay off to copy the Sea Medium serveral times. Makes the
game so much easier.... :)

Wind-Directions
There's a compass on the bottom-right corner. When I say North I mean North
on that compass.

And that covers all, I suppose. So let's get started.

P.S. This FAQ has been written on the US version only.
It has come to my information that some things have been changed during
the translation from Japanese. Therefore I cannot guarantee the
accurateness of this FAQ when you play the Japanese version.

| Characters | IDXB000 |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
These are your party members in this game

*** Dean Stark
A Golem Hunter-Wannabe. He has a positive attitude and never gives up.
Dean can attack adjecent hexes.

*** Rebecca Streisand
Probably not related to Barb. At least I hope not :)
Rebecca is an acribatic energetic girl who is in love with Dean, but does
not dare to speak that out.
Rebecca can attack all enemies in a direct line with her.

*** Avril Vent Fleur
A girl with amnesia. Only remembers her name and the words
"Johnny Appleseed". You'll have to find out yourself what that means.
Avril can attack all enemies in a adjecent hex.

*** Greg Russelberg
Somebody who destroys Golems hoping to lure a man out so that he can take
revenge on him.
Greg is though and can shoot all Hexes in a straight line with him.

*** Carol Anderson
A clumsy, yet smart girl who is looking for somebody.
Carol is the weakest party member, but able to attack any hex regardless
of the HEX she or her enemy is in.

*** Chuck Preston
An apprentice Golem Hunter.
Can attack any single adjecent HEX.

+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Opponent Characters | IDXB001 |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
*** Volsung
A ruthless man. The leader of the radicals.
He's coldhearted and ruthless.

*** Persephone
A woman who appears cold and icy, but with a softer side than she wants
to admit.

*** Ferreydoon
A proud soldier with a mask

*** Elvis
Cannot tell you anything about him without spoiling the game.

*** Kartikeya
Calling him evil does not do him justice.
Calling him the absolute incarnation of insanity would be way too kind.
He loves nothing more than causing death and destruction and his insane
laughter is his trademark.

+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Since this is the 10th aniversary of the series and also the 5th parth of the

| ARM Cartridges | IDXB003 |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Once Dean got his ARM he cannot only use it for battle he can also to shoot
things in dungeons. Think of them as tools as you used them in the previous
Wild Arms games.

Here are the cartridges and where to find them:

  • Standard
Standard bullet with no special attributes
Acquired when you defeat Kalivos at Celestial Peak

  • Freeze Ray
With this Dean will shoot a cold beam. Handy to put out fire or to freeze
    certain objects.
You'll find it in the Temple Of Rejection (Room 03)

  • Fire Bullet
Shoots fire. Handy to light torches or to melt frozen objects.
Obtained in room 03 of Memorial Sanctuary.

  • Detector
Handy to find treasures, and to make invisible stuff visible, and to
detect if a chest is a regular chest or a Mimic.
Receive it from Pastel after you cure her from her disease.

  • Power Shot
An explosive projectile to blow things up or to activate things that
would otherwise be too heavy to activate. You can also use to open
    lightblue treasure chests.
Found in Mt Chug-Chug, room 02

  • Anchor Hook
Shoots a hook on things to pull them, or to pull you to them.
Found in Pilgrim's Cradle, Area 02

+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Combos | IDXB004 |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
You can combo two party members into one move. A requirement for that is that
you learned the combo move first, which can happen if you are lucky when the
two are in the same HEX and having enough FP for that move.

To perform the combo the two party members you want to combo must be in the
same HEX, and then you can use it.

Overhead Sorcery 25 FP Avril & Rebecca
Trigger Rondo 25 FP Dean & Rebecca
Javelin Bullet 25 FP Dean & Avril
Gungnir Effect 25 FP Carol & Greg
Mysteltainn Zero 25 FP Carol & Avril
Electric Claw 50 FP Carol & Chuck
Judgement Heat 50 FP Chuck & Greg
Omega Revolver 50 FP Chuck & Dean
Flower Barrage 50 FP Chuck & Rebecca

+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Mediums | IDXB005 |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
The mediums provide personal skills, original abilities and force abilities.
Once you take off a medium the abilities that are tied to it disappear from
that character, but (s)he will get them back when (s)he re-equips that medium.

The abilities you have are based on your level, however you can use CG points
equal to your level to tweak these abilities. However doing so will cost HP,
you will get it back when you undo this "tweak".

Here are the Mediums you can find:
(Abilities I marked with a * are really noteworthy)

SKY MEDIUM - Acquired: Area 03, Abandoned Path
This medium is good for spells. When used from the right Ley Point you can
really kill some enemies quickly. Works amazingly well on some bosses.

The Main Quest is all you must do in order to win the game. Let's get started
shall we.

You start the game with only Dean at your disposal.
The game starts in the Hill-Side Ruins

06: Go south and you get the Slide Tutorial. Slide to destroy the crates
then jump onto the solid block and onto the higher platform and exit
south (on the way you find a book that belongs to Rebecca).

07: You now get on the dig-site. Examine all the glitterings until you found
everything (among the stuff is a golem part). You cannot open the door
here yet, so time to go back.
Exit north

I gave the sky medium to Dean, and the Sea Medium to Avril.
I used the blank one to copy the Sea Medium and gave it to Rebecca.
If you follow my example is up to you.

Upon arrival you'll meet Chuck. He won't join the party though. In fact he's
being arrested. He wants you to find his Golem Hunter's License.

When they are done, save if you want and leave the city

As soon as you leave the city of Mirapulse you get the item find tutorial.
Now head east and you'll see a railway track. Follow the track to the north
until you reach the railway station.
(You can enter the station so that it's marked on the map, but you don't
need to. You can meet Kanon here (Crimson warrior), she'll tell you about
the Sol Nigers. Later Kanon will be near Honeysday. You can also find Rudy
but he's not worth anything right now).

Search the area north of the station. Pick up the glitter that appears.
That is Chuck's lisence.

Follow the railway track back.
Take the second "way" west (if you catch my meaning)

As soon as you get on the path go north back into the village.

Now you'll see that they are about to execute Chuck.
You can save him by recovering the Mirror of DeSoto.

Don't worry about that Sundown thing. There's no time-limit.

Upon your arrival you'll have your first encounter with Greg. He will not
join the party yet. After he leaves we can continue.

01: Up the ramp, exit north

02: Make your way around this room and exit north

03: You get a tutorial on the train carts.

= Pull the switch to change the track
= Kick the cart to make it run
= Follow the cart
= Exit west at the end of the track

Make your way back to Mirapulse. Still know the way, doncha?
You don't. Okay, follow the railway till you reach the station. From there
follow the higher railway. Second "way" west (hard to explain)
When you reach the path, go north into the village.

When you arrive you'll be there to stop Chuck's execution.
Chuck will give you train tickets. He'll also tell you to go to Laila Belle.
Well, you won't get there for awhile, but nice to note that city for later.
Anyway your next destination is set. The railway station.

| Location Type: Railway Station |
+------------------------------------------------------------------hqdefault.jpg| The Taraque Gorath is completely resistant for physical attacks. So |
| you'll need magic attacks. The Combos Javelin Bullet and Overhead Sorcery |
| fall under that category, but best works if somebody with the Sky Medium |
| keeps casting Blast on it from the Fire Leypoint. |
| |
| The Taraque Mons is more vulnerable to physical attacks. The quickest |
| way to kill that one is to cast "Crush" on it from a Wind HEX, but since |
| that HEX is hard to reach, you can consider normal attacks, or a Ley |
| Change to get a Wind Leypoint in your reach. Normal attacks do work well |
| it only takes a little longer |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
After this fight you can purify the Sol Niger if you please.
You cannot do anything with the east targets yet, so go north
and exit west

15: This place is automated. You'll automaticly leave the dungeon after
it.

+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Upon your arrival Greg will immediately leave the party. This is not a
permanent leave. He'll be back later.

Now that you're here you can start the Yulie & Kresnik sidequest. See the
sidequest section for more information.

The cameo for Gallows (Wild Arms 3) is here too, but he's not really of any
value.

| If Dean is equipped with the sky medium, then go crazy with Blast from |
| The HEX he's in, but since the attacks are pretty strong and Carol has |
| no healing spells at this point, that's not the wisest way to go. |
| Better is to have Dean with the Sea medium so that you have at least one |
| healer. Carol can attack from any HEX, so don't bother moving her around. |
| This fight doesn't take long, though. |
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
After this fight Rebecca and Avril will join the party again. Reset your
mediums and continue the quest.now
you get moonlight sword

Thanks you all
